It's a real shame the colour version isn't being released on DVD. To be honest limiting the colour version to Blu Ray and only announcing it some time after the pre orders have gone in for the B/W version is at best bad planning and at worst blatant profiteering.

My thoughts exactly Richard. What was to stop BBC America releasing a B/W Blu-ray and including the colour blu-ray as a bonus disc?Absolute madness.

Thank you Jaz, I'm glad it's not just me. I didn't wish to appear churlish as this release is a great step forward, but even so, it's difficult not to be annoyed by this.

I totally agree, talk about milking the fans ! I'm very peeved about this.

I'm probably going to cancel my dvd pre-order at amazon & just get the blu-ray. Not very keen on the idea of colour but the clip looked quite nice (as a supplementary version ) so will probably do as mentioned.
BBC should have put colour version on the dvd also.

I'm pretty sure they put both color and b&w on one dvd in region 1, but it wasn't blu-ray.

If that's the case I'll cancel my region 2 monochrome DVD & order the region 1 release, despite the lower viewing quality. Unbelievable!

In a bit of a quandry as whether to cancel the dvd pre-order & get the blu - just because its a long wait til February!
And for reasons of finance I don't want to get the dvd & end up getting the bluray too ( though I can see that may happen! ).
I'd be happy with the barnes & noble dvd except it only gets released in late Jan - so if I can wait that long I can wait another week or 2 for the blu-ray! ( I don't like downloads so haven't seen it at all yet )

Hi Jaspal, you're probably right re the content. Generally I much prefer to see the 60's animations in monochrome but the colour clip did look nice for a supplemental viewing; hence a bit of a dilemma! Though I guess if I haven't cancelled the dvd by the weekend it'll be on it's way in the post.
Incidentally the barnes & noble dvd seems to be only a couple of quid cheaper than the blu-ray once postage to the U.K. included, when I looked a while ago ( though of course the exchange rate can be volatile - especially lately! )

Just my two cents / pence on the matter but in my opinion the official release should be as close to the original program as broadcast as possible. I can tolerate it being made in widescreen as I often watch classic who in the wide screen mode.
But if they want to attempt to edit the audio to tighten things up or color what should have been made in black and white then that should be a separate DVD as a special edition
