Does anyone remember this show from the early 70s? It starred Eric Flynn, Anthony Bate, Bernard Horsfall and others. I saw it on my local PBS station around 1973-1974. It played through twice, back to back, and then vanished. I can't seem to find much about its current status, other than I believe it survives in archives.
It has been over 40 years but it is a very vivid memory. I remember it being great all-round. Anyone know anything about if or where this could be viewed today?
Thanks.
Tom

Hi Tom,
The BFI hold 5 of the 9? episodes, they are dated 4/1/70 25/1/70 5/2/70 15/2/70 and 1/3/70
You may be able to view these at the BFI mediatheque in London South Bank if you contact them?

Hi William, Thanks very much for the info. Very decent of you to take the time and look into this. Unfortunately I am on the wrong side of the Atlantic to be able to try and go view the surviving shows as you suggested This is one of those shows that I would give much to be able to see once more. Eric Flynn was very good as the title lead, but Anthony Bate as Brian de Bois Guilbert and Bernard Horsfall as the Black Knight were outstanding. Their performances are what really stayed with me all these years. The search continues

Yes I remember this series and was recently trying to find out if it was available on DVD. Complete blank sadly. I have vague memories as a 9 year old of the Templar knights being a rather sinister bunch and lots of intrigue around gloomy sets. I had a sense of it being downbeat compared to the Robin Hood series (Richard Greene) but somehow this 1970 Ivanhoe has stayed in the mind compared to others from that genre. I would really like to see it again...

And for some reason it has managed to stay in my mind, too, far more than some other, better known shows from the same period and genre. A real shame it has not been available for so long. Hindsight is often golden, but I believe this show would live up to my memories of it. And it had great theme music. Tchaikovsky's 4th symphony, 4th movement. Perfect match.

Resurrecting an old thread here.
This show is now available on a 2-disc dvd set from Simply Media! I just placed my order through Amazon UK for a great price, including shipping to the US. Never thought I would be able to see this one again. Here's hoping it lives up to my memories of it.

Well, it took me a little longer to watch all of this than I anticipated. The verdict is a solid two thumbs-up. David Maloney directs a cast that is a veritable Who's-Who of Doctor Who veterans. While the sets are simple due to a limited budget, between the efficient direction and the performances of the cast the entire production shines. Vivian Brooks and Anthony Bate are especially marvelous as Rebecca and Sir Brian - their scenes together are riveting. Easily as good as I remembered, maybe even more so. Such fun to see this again.
