Is there a recorded incidence of any program being made in full and then never shown due to physical damage or loss of the tapes? rather than legal reasons

Well, though each of those episodes were, as far as reasearch can state, were never screened the reasons weren't down to either "physical damage" or "loss of tapes".
I'm sure there have been several documentary programmes that have been unscreened due to the threat of legal action, but drama that springs to mind is MRS. WEEKLEY'S LETTER - an episode from PRIVATE AFFAIRS, a 1975 BBC2 six-part series. (And it still exists)
