I know enough about checking a film to look for the smell of vinegar and I know how to look for sprocket damage and I do actually know how to load a film projector granted I had not done it since elementary school in the 1970's but the major point is I and most other fans don't have a projector sitting in there attic to play it on any way. . . .

Looks like you're a good candidate for an apprentice to the Restoration Team

I did, and I have a copy of it here - it doesn't say that the episodes were found in late 2012, nor that they were returned to BBC as soon as they were recovered. Not sure why you are suggesting otherwise. You've just got your hands on decades old cans of rare, probably unique, film that is clearly in need of urgent TLC - read the article - and what do you do with it ? (1) You get it to someone like Paul Vanezis asap. (2) You stick it in your sock drawer. Get real ! Get real? Please don't be rude. You keep claiming that the were found in late 2012, which there is so much evidence to suggest it wasn't true. It's also no secret that Moffat wrote the Great Intelligence into the new series when word of the find leaked to Cardiff. And that was being filmed in summer 2012 - let alone leaked or written.

You really think that an old enemy was written into a story because some missing episodes had been found ? Go back umpteen years and JN-T had an "old enemies", although I don't think he called it exactly that, season. We're still waiting for Power and Evil.....

Given that we know that he wrote it after rumours of the find in Jos were already circulating. Yes. Given all the bizarre theories and "already loaded on iTunes" hoaxes people have fallen for, not sure why such an obvious occurrence would even raise an eyebrow.

I didn't realise this was so complicated.
So can we say for certain that Web 3 disappeared sometime between Oct 2011 and May 2013?
But perhaps we can narrow it down further than that?

Go back a few yeears earlier and DWO claimed that Web had been recovered - they got serious egg on their face(s). In between that and PM hitting paydirt there was a long running, but ultimately false, rumour that Power had been found. This sort of thing is always happening in fandom - trying to make cause and effect is little short of desperation ! There were some incredible, and extremely convoluted, attempts to "read" clues in the new series to confirm the omnirumour but two years after Web and Enemy were announced - zilch !

I'm just going to refer you to my post a couple of pages ago and hope that you aren't wilfully ignoring it: Take a listen to the audio recordings of Phil's convention appearance www.doctorwhonews.net/2015/09/more-details-about-discovery-and-loss.htmlHere's a transcript of what is said at around the 18 minute mark of the Saturday Panel: Interviewer - "How big a lead time was there between you finding the episodes in Nigeria and announcing it?" Philip Morris - "Ok, no problem. Well you can understand what the delay was about - episode three. These were initially found - and that's me in Jos station locating them - at the end of 2011. A further year went by, we were trying to get hold of three." What more evidence do you need to concede that they were found in late 2011?

There is a difference between locating something and getting your hands on it. Nigeria is a very corrupt country and some time between PM first seeing them and being able to ship them back to the UK WOF3 went walkies.

So...Could someone point to an audio of Philip Morris saying that he's hopeful about Web 3,as recently reported? It would be much appreciated!

Added: Mentioned on Roobarb that he also said that he'd found a Troubleshooters. Is that already known?

Hi John, I don't have a link to the audio but I have listened to it and basically the quote about Web of Fear 3 is: "it won't stay missing for much longer... we're on top of that one..." That was really good news and that snippet alone was well worth the session at the Starburst Festival. I'll be very happy if that's the only missing episode to be returned now (even though it obviously won't be.) The other quote worth mentioning is that we'll get more Doctor Who when "we least expect it." So that one gives two fingers to all the rumoured dates of the next announcement.

Or maybe we won't as that date is one of the ones when we would most expect to hear about a Patrick Troughton episode recovery!

I've been in touch with every Who fan on earth, and there's a vast range of dates on which they expect an announcement.Only one date-September 14th,this year, was NO-ONE'S choice for a likely date... Seriously, given PM's caution and vagueness,"It won't stay missing much longer" sounds pretty forceful.
