No picture proof seen of the can (Ep 3 ) So what we are told is only his word is it not ? Even with a photo, we still only have his word for it (that he hasn't photoshopped it). Having listened to the two audios, I'm satisfied by the guy's integrity and I'm certainly not gonna cast aspersions on it ... and I agree with PaulG that there would seemingly be little point in such a lie. Phil's a hero in my book!

Some questions/thoughts.. Reading the PM forum, from a transcript of the phil morris interview.... www.planetmondas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=3753&start=34980"PM: What happened, exactly with Enemy and Web – they were recovered quite some time ago now. They were located in Jos – two of my guys were with me, who work for TIEA, and I said to one of them, “Those film prints, I want you to put them somewhere in here, before we leave, so that they’re out of sight. So he moved them, and it’s only when he got to the last two films. There was something else as well, I wasn’t quite sure what that is but there was something else. And the station manager said “what are you doing with those?” and took the two prints off him, and I asked what happened and he said he took them to his office."Is he saying that he grabbed the films while Phil was actually there??? Also is he saying the station manager took two prints? if so, we only know of one print (web 3). Im curious what else was taken? "AM: Do you think it’s still in Nigeria, or made it back to the UK? PM: No, no. AM: Do you think it’s in the UK somewhere, or.... PM: Hmmm, maybe not in the UK, it might be in Australia? Australia or somewhere like that. I don’t know that, you know, it might be in the UK. But it was somebody... I trusted somebody and a lot of information..."Im curious if he is saying it was an Australia collector, but unsure where it is now. When asked about snowman/wheel, he says... "A lot of that went on. Erm, it’s not... the thing with Nigeria – it is finished, but there are certain things that we’re still kind of looking at, which are (1:26 inaudible) people talk about, which is again a myth that err Lagos was a central depot for things. It never was. It never was. Lagos has a small station. They used to keep a lot of film or some film there. They had a flood because it’s right on the edge of the beach. They had a flood. A lot of water came in. They stopped using telecine probably in about 1985, err, and I was told all those films were taken, thrown on the back of a truck and taken to the beach and just tipped on the beach. Just junk – just left. Erm, what was amongst those programmes – I’ve no idea. There are no logs from that station. Erm, the only thing possibly – Midwest TV and Lagos sort of amalgamated, so the only possible thing maybe was, maybe The Wheel in Space, maybe it wasn’t. You know it’s erm, there’s still a few things that we’re a little bit inconclusive on that. Erm, but we’ll see, we’ll see. "notice he talks about wheel and not snowman? im wondering if that means something.

Not sure if this is right, but wasn't there something at Cyprus (?) when stacks of plays etc. were discovered and were due to be picked up later, but in the meantime, they'd been disposed of by staff fearful of the consequences of retaining material which they were contractually obliged to have had disposed?

The Web of Fear news about episode 3 was a real kick in the balls. I thought we would get it eventually, but now I don't know. It is like a bad dream that I can't wake up from.

Today's Guardian reports www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/oct/06/new-species-of-hog-nosed-rat-discovered-in-indonesia that a species of hog-nosed rat has been discovered in Indonesia.Of special interest to DW fans because of the passage: “We had never seen anything like this,” Esselstyn said, adding: “Our guides didn’t tell us right away that they had caught it. “We were asleep and they were up late at night discussing whether they should give it to us or keep it for themselves. We were very glad that they eventually decided to give it to us because otherwise we would have left and never had known about this animal.” Another older report mentioned that another unknown-to-science species was found being offered as bushmeat. Different cultures have different mores and folkways; what we see as bribery is often regarded as anticipatory thanks.Film cans make ideal communal ashtrays...

I remember it more as being the BBC found some of its shows there and some ITV. They removed their own but the ITV company (ABC?) or their successors weren't interested in paying to retrieve them before the vault was cleared out and so they were disposed of a waste for the reason you gave.

A Google found the thread I was thinking of; it's not actually off-topic,because it does give another example of the difficulties of turning finds into retrievals: missingepisodes.proboards.com/thread/5905

I'm surprised that Equity haven't expressed concern on behalf of their more elderly members.Mind you,I blame Equity quite a bit for the limited-repeats policy which led to junkings.

Could it be possible that when PM let slip about finding Web and Enemy an eager fan contacted Jos and asked to buy Episode 3 as that was already in the BBC archive - so it was a nice spare copy? The guy in Jos intercepts Web 3 instead of Enemy 3 by mistake and the fallout is we lose the missing episode?

The guy in Jos intercepts Web 3 instead of Enemy 3 by mistake and the fallout is we lose the missing episode? I suspect it could be more simple; perhaps when the rumours started going around, a series of helpful souls phoned the station in Nigeria and started shouting about how the prints were super rare or something along those lines and subsequently derailed affairs for themselves and everyone else. Perhaps this isn't what happened, but it would not surprise me if it was somewhere close.
