Those in, or near, London on 26 November may well be interested in an extremely unusual commemoration of what I certainly consider one of the best Baker/Hinchcliffe/Holmes stories. In the setting of the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology the Egyptologist John J. Johnston will celebrate the story. See: Petrie Film Club presents: Celebrating Sutekh: 40 Years of Pyramids of Mars (scroll down) As one of the most renowned Doctor Who serials, Pyramids of Mars (BBC, Paddy Russell, 1975), reaches its 40th anniversary, join Egyptologist John J Johnston, as he celebrates this most Egyptological of the Doctor’s adventures in the unique surroundings of the Petrie Museum. Utilising objects from the collection, this lecture considers the ways in which the history, mythology and iconography of ancient Egypt drive and inform this tale of Gothic horror and ancient extraterrestrials. You can book hereI've already paid a fiver for my ticket, who else will be there ?

Sure wish I could make it, it sounds like fun. Don't forget to tip the organist! Given how many of us are out beyond the realm of Inner Blighty, it'd be nice if there was some effort to put this sort of thing online, streaming or otherwise. As with the cons, not all of us can make them, even if we'd like to. If TED can do it, surely something can be done to bring it to the wider assortment of fans hither and yon. Happy to pay a reasonable sub for an e-membership if it was unified viewable goodness and some interactivity but I'm sure there's all kinds of complicated reasons why it ain't easy or possible. Still if the Beeb is getting into events with official cons and tours, maybe someday something like this will come. Sporran on standby for whenever - if ever - that comes to pass!

It ain't missing... Signify your understanding.Continue... Went to check...and then thought better of playing Seek Sutekh. Wasn't such a winner for Marcus Scarman, and absent a respiratory bypass system I think I'll play safe lest my nervous system be shred into a million fibres!

Oddly enough, I've just reread the Target novelisationfor the first time in over thirty years. No idea why, I just found it in a cupboard and...read it. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
