Saw in the comments on an existing episode from this series on youtube, someone saying they had a philips n1500 copy of the missing episode 'Bedtime'. Could just be someone trolling, but hopefully not. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJbxfbL7zb4

Nice spot! Let's hope it turns out to be genuine and watchable.

Just found out on the web that the N1500 VCR format was introduced in 1972 so it certainly looks possible.

I've messaged them about the importance of the recording they say they have. Hopefully they reply soon and they do have it. What would be the best way of making sure any recordings they have are returned to an archive?

Were there ever any developments on this 'Bedtime' episode or others? This was an excellent series judging from the three existent episodes and The Stone Tape which I've read began as an eight.

That's too bad. I have some audio tapes with severe drop outs that I wish didn't but when they do they do... last chance to duplicate having passed by sadly.

What would be the best way of making sure any recordings they have are returned to an archive? Why - "... making sure any recordings they have are returned to an archive?"? Surley the aim or objective should be - restore maybe stabalise, digitise, copy many times, distribute copies, only then send to an archive?

I agree except for high profile stuff which we can be fairly sure will be officially issued (Who, Dad's Army, Morecambe & Wise etc.). With less known stuff unfortunately, if not made available in some way - such as how you mention - material may well just languish in the archives rarely or never seen/heard forever, or at least until its roughly contemporary audience are no longer around...

Maybe ask them to give the tape to the bbc just in case they could do anything with it?
