I hope that I am doing the right thing mentioning this for all to see. There is a collection of item from the Bob Sharples archive for sale on Ebay at the moment. Mostly brocures .etc. One item that caught my eye was a programme for Comedy Bandbox in which it states who is on that particular show etc. Mind you the prices are a bit steep. I dont know how to create a link for said item so you would have to type in ABC Television for the item to appear. I Hope that I am not wasting anyones time over this.

Mick I am very glad you drew attention to above, it's great to see a thread about ABC Comedy Bandbox.. here is the lostshows.com entries for Comedy Bandbox.. www.lostshows.com/default.aspx?search=comedy+bandboxthis link shows there were 2 shows of that name, the first being ABC Comedy Bandbox 1962-5..all 41 episodes listed as Missing, but with casts., the second being ABC David Nixon's Comedy Bandbox 1966..all 13 episodes listed as Missing, but again with casts.. so it would be good to know if anything exists anywhere from either of these.. interesting to see that man Stubby Kaye, was in the very first episode in 1962!.. Jimmy Tarbuck made his television screen debut on Comedy Bandbox 19/10/63 episode, I wonder if Jimmy happens to have a holding of his first performance on television, does anyone know how to ask him? Looking at all the episodes, I wonder if any of the others also made their television debut on Comedy Bandbox and may similarly hold a copy of it?..

many thanks again Mick, for your posts and starting this thread. Although called Comedy Bandbox, if we look at the Lostshows.com link in my first post above, we can see that it was an all-round, all-encompassing variety show, with many Singers and Music acts appearing, here are some of them..
Series 1 Tessie O'Shea, Dorothy Squires.
Series 2 Vera Lynn, Clinton Ford, Barbara Law, Gerry and The Pacemakers, Adam Faith, Jackie Trent, The Kaye Sisters, Dickie Valentine, Joe Brown and The Bruvvers.
16/5/64 Holiday Bandbox...lostshows above doesn't give a cast list.....can any member or guest provide one please.. 27/6/64 Holiday Bandbox...again need a cast list please.
Series 3 Val Doonican, Julie Rogers, Susan Maughan, The Vernon Girls, Freddie and The Dreamers, Patsy Ann Noble, The Barron Knights, Alma Cogan. 12/12/64 Colin Crompton, a very early appearance, some 10 years before The Wheel Tappers and Shunters Club.
David Nixon's Comedy Bandbox had The Seekers, Al Saxon, Tom Jones, The Rockin' Berries, The Dallas Boys, Lulu, Carol Deene..
so it would be great if any footage, audio or photographic material exists to give us a picture of what Comedy Bandbox was like..

my thanks to BFI Screenonline Mike Yarwood from which the following is an extract from..
' Mike Yarwood...following success in talent contests, he learnt his trade in the pubs and clubs circuit of northern england, particularly around Manchester, where he was spotted by Billy Scott, a producer for ABC Television. Scott found him a spot as the warm-up act on the ABC show Comedy Bandbox (ITV, 1962-66), which mixed established acts with newcomers. Yarwood showed enough promise to be invited back to make his television debut on the same show on 21 December 1963'.
Lostshows.com in the above post, doesn't show Mike Yarwood for that episode, but Kaleidoscope has said in the past, that Lostshows.com struggles to show everyone who was in a particular episode...

Hylda Baker appeared in Comedy Bandbox Series 2 26.10.63 (Missing) and Series 3 16.01.65 (Missing) and she also appeared in David Nixon's Comedy Bandbox 27.02.66 (Missing) Here are 2 clips of her with Cynthia (always played by a man, are these the same man in these 2 clips?), please can anyone advise if one or both of these are from any of the 3 ME above.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NUysZ7aDEQMorton Fraser's Harmonica Gang appeared twice on Comedy Bandbox, 21.12.63 and 21.11.64. The following clip is made up of 2 performances, the first which is 29 seconds long, the wording underneath says it comes from a UK show...the man introducing them, I believe is a very young Charlie Chester, who appeared on Comedy Bandbox on 26.11.63 so says Lostshows in post above..(the second performance is from Portugal 1961) www.youtube.com/watch?v=3V0mTlyHpBIThe Nitwits, Sid Millward, Jack Haig appeared on Comedy Bandbox on 02.01.65, like the 2 items above, I am not entirely sure this is from Comedy Bandbox, but the description underneath says Sid Milward and his Nitwits 1966 television and the eagle-eyed among us may recoginise Jack Haig among them.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=sazuXSuHuqc

Norman Collier also made his television screen debut on Comedy Bandbox 12.01.63 where the host was Scottish Comedian Don Arroll with Arthur Askey, Terry Scott, Mike and Bernie Winters. Norman also appeared on David Nixon's Comedy Bandbox 13.03.66, 20.03.66 and 27.03.66. Highly regarded by his fellow comedians and a firm favourite with me too. His Faulty Microphone and Chicken Impressions are hilarious! Barbara Law made 3 appearances on Comedy Bandbox, the very first epsiode 01.12.62, 19.10.63, 14.12.63, here is a clip of her, but is it from Comedy Bandbox... www.youtube.com/watch?v=tX1tM4c2yjcThe Three Monarchs made an appearance on Comedy Bandbox 10.10.64 and appearance on David Nixon's Comedy Bandbox on 15.01.66, this following clip of them is dated 15.02.65 so is not from Bandbox, interviewed in rehearsals on stage, but it gives us a picture of them.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=exXHSFgXnWMComedy Bandbox started as a 40 minute show, in prime time viewing on Saturday Night 6.35 - 7.15 pm, by 17.10.64 this had increased to 50 minutes of comedy and music with another all-star show in this popular series. David Nixon's Comedy Bandbox was a 45 minute show, which for the month of January 1966 was on a Saturday, but from 06.02.66 was on a Sunday 4.40 - 5.30 pm. Besides the usual mix of Comedy, Pop Music, Magic, Ventriloquists, it had 'Your Crazy Wish' where viewers performed their mad stunt in front of the camera..

Joan Turner really was something else. She appeared 4 times on Comedy Bandbox, 1/12/62, 2/2/63, 5/10/63 and 9/1/65... The Guardian says...Joan Turner was an outstanding versatile performer who was called 'the women's answer to Harry Secombe.' The Telegraph says...At the pinnacle of her career, Joan Turner became the highest female singer and comedienne in the country. The Times says...At the height of her fame, in the 1960s Joan Turner was widely regarded as one of Britain's most brilliant comediennes. Here is a fine extract... www.youtube.com/watch?v=5k-kx8iCoDkthat is from Joan Turner's Workshop, all of it is on there in 5 pieces. Belfast born, I wonder if she ever appeared on UTV, who may hold some footage of her, perhaps Ken Griffin can tell us please. Jimmy James, if you read the comments below the following, it shows that even today, he remains hugely influential. He appeared twice on Comedy Bandbox 8/12/62 and 9/2/63, the following comes from Tyne Tees Television, I wonder if it is from a Missing Episode? www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANIA4IP245c

breaking news.. the credit for the following goes to mickconnolly whose post above about Holiday Bandbox 16.05.64 containing Dennis Spicer was key to bringing these to light.. 3 items on Videotape which I hope 2 are from Comedy Bandbox.. Saveen and Daisy May appeared on Comedy Bandbox 4 times..22/12/62, 12/10/63, 11/1/64 and 21/11/64, the videotape maybe one of the last 2 episodes.. Dennis Spicer Holiday Bandbox 16/5/64...the attire of Dennis and the newlyweds and the stage setting looks 1964.. the other videotape item is of Terry Hall and this maybe from David Nixon's Comedy Bandbox 29/1/66. I have made a submission to Lostshows about these 3 and have sent the videotape items to Chris Perry and await their answer, if these 3 are from Comedy Bandbox and David Nixon's Bandbox.. I will post these 3 later, so all can see, they are very good and well-worth seeing. Thanks again to Mick, it shows that all who add information can be key to help locating material..so please everyone keep posting information, it is very helpful! All 41 episodes of Comedy Bandbox and all 13 episodes of David Nixon's Comedy Bandbox are listed as Missing, so there's plenty more that information is needed about, everyone is welcome to post, members and guests, let's hope the above 3 turn out to be from Comedy Bandbox

I can now put on the link which contains the 3 clips on videotape.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPUcg30D8NM21.08 -23.28 minutes Saveen with Daisy May 28.0-30.53 minutes Dennis Spicer 31.36-33.04 minutes Terry Hall Kaleidoscope have responded to the Lostshows submissions by saying...Simon Coward has been doing some checking... ' The Cannon Entertainment who are mentioned on the end credits of that programme were part of the Cannon Group of film and entertainment companies - the ones run by Golan and Globus in the 70s and 80s and the group which, for about a year, owned the ABC archive - having acquired it when they bought Thorn-EMI Screen Entertainment in 1986. They sold the Thorn-EMI Entertainment Library on to Weintraub in 1987 or thereabouts. Perhaps there were purges in the same way that bits were lost from the ITC archives but... The backdrop on two of those clips is very geometric and unlike anything in the 128 photos we have of the Bandbox Series. I'm not so familiar with Big Night Out but all three of those artists appeared on that series and in editions which still exist. We've got two of the possibly relevant shows 24/08/63 on BSP (Terry Hall's on this one) and 18/01/64 (with Dennis Spicer) from N1. I assume the latter's a DVD but it's not one I've ever backed up, so I can't check it'. So it looks as though Kaleidoscope are fairly sure that none of these three videotape clips are from Comedy Bandbox, but from Simon Coward's fine piece of writing above, we now know that Kaleidoscope does hold 128 photos and I for one have learnt much about who has owned the ABC archive and what exists of Saveen, Dennis Spicer and Terry Hall, from the same period that they appeared on Comedy Bandbox, so these clips give us a good picture of what is Missing from their appearances on the Comedy Bandbox series. My thanks to Chris Perry and Simon Coward for their invaluable help on this matter.. So the search continues for some footage from Comedy Bandbox and David Nixon's Comedy Bandbox, no doubt some-one will locate something sometime..
