Was reading about the studio that Britain's got talent is broadcast from as it intrigued me as it seems like a huge studio and the history of the place makes fascinating reading having been built (or should i say rebuilt) for Associated Rediffusion which took a number of years to build and was completed in 1960. Fountain Studios/Granville studio's - Britain's largest studio ( or possibly the worlds at the time) Some good detailed information on the studio's use here :http://www.tvstudiohistory.co.uk/studio%20history.htm#wembley%20rediffusion www.78rpm.co.uk/ar.htminformation from this page details the launch programme from this studio : To celebrate the opening of this magnificent Studio, on Thursday 9th June 1960 (8pm-9.35), A-R transmitted live An Arabian Night Lost shows states that it is a missing programme which I find very surprising for such an important show which was obviously an expensive show to produce and took months to plan with many big name guests including Orson Welles, yet there is very little visual material on the net. www.imdb.com/title/tt0913952/explore.bfi.org.uk/4ce2b6ed8f5f3I would have thought it would have been recorded at the time due the significance of the occasion or maybe featured in a programme or news feature. Anyone have any information on the background or history of the show ?

The music from the show (adapted from 'Sheherazade' by Rimsky-Korsakov, and played by the Sinfonia of London conducted by Muir Matheson) was pressed as a commemorative LP to mark the opening of Studio 5 - I bought a copy from a charity shop about 20 years ago for 75p!
I'd love to know who originally received a copy, as it was a not-for-sale item.
I saw a booklet to go with it on eBay a few years ago, and I hoped to unite it with the LP, but unfortunately I was outbid. But at least there is some audio representation, and possibly some visual in the booklet as well.

Spoke to someone in the know at the Kal event over the weekend regarding this show and there is a possibility that the show survives as the AR archive is not very comprehensively catalogued with the bodies that hold pieces of the archive and lots of the library tapes went missing after they lost their franchise. The search goes on. I'm going to follow up a couple of organisations.

Great detective work William - more pieces of the jigsaw of what looked to be quite a spectacular programme - Wonder if the Susan Stranks is the magpie presenter ?
