Some of the TOTP films are apparently held in negative form only. Not saying that's the case here, but if so maybe no inventory existed for the films held in negative form at that time. I recalled something with a pic of John and Yoko shrouded in a cloud, possibly a mushroom cloud and vague other memories. TOTP2 seemed to show what I recalled some time in the 2000s, also featuring church windows and a large number of lit candles. Later Yoko is known to have made a number of her own animations to various tracks including this which does confuse the issue a bit. I've seen another film to the track in which parts of the 'power to the people' promo is mixed with shots of troops and a black choir shot in black and white which I don't recall as being footage shot at the time. As far as I knew as Ray Langstone said the film clip shown in one of the 1972 Xmas shows was held as a production insert despite the show itself being wiped. It may be that bits which were held over longer for Xmas shows tended to get shelved and just kept as there are other oddments that got forgotten about some of which didn't end up getting used in Xmas shows after all. Exactly that.

Indeed - the BBC have it. It's not out on the collectors circuit. So are you saying the BBC definitely have the Happy Xmas War Is Over film which is on Ronnies 39 Tapes?

I'm a very keen Beatles/Lennon fan and to know that this film has now been found would be big news! Even Keith Badman (an authority on John Lennon) has said that the BBC didn't have it in their archives when he was writing his After The Break Up book so I'm very interested if this has now surfaced.
Ray, could I ask where I can view the confirmation of its existence?

There are many many many uncatalogued films/VT in the BBC archives, this is just one, and as the official archive listings are now heavily restricted it's not possible to have written confirmation at present.

So how can we be 100% sure the BBC have now found this?

Ray, could I ask where I can view the confirmation of its existence? It was mentioned on Getty Images when they had full descriptions. This has now disappeared. I had a list of extant promos the BBC still had (orphans) and I will try and find and post that in the week.

Re "Happy Xmas" it seems incredible that John & Yoko would not a) film the recording b) keep a record of the film! even if a third party did the actual filming? the reason being they kept almost everything else at the time?

Would John & Yoko have kept a BBC promo made up of mainly photographs?
Ray is correct, it was on the getty website before the restrictions came in

Was the actual film on Getty Images?
Maybe, as Keith Badman says, Lennon didn't request a copy from the BBC, but that mean it's not sought after by collectors now.

Keith Badman sent me an e-mail to say he's going to ask a good friend at the BBC about the Happy Xmas film, so hopefully we can finally find out what they have?

The number of the film in the BBC Archive is LLV5706K. That sorts that out!
