I was surprised that this hadn't been accompanied by an announcement, as the BBC are only too pleased to give as much publicity to new findings. This leads me to wonder whether it was uploaded prematurely before permission / announcement...
Fascinating news however, and it was great to listen to even though I only caught half of it.

No links on the forum, please.
In other news, I'd like to draw everyone's attention to the ability to send private messages to other members. Just saying.

Fantastic, thanks for sharing. Hartnell has always been my favourite Doctor so it's great to hear more of him.

Having listened to the did, I was pleasantly surprised.
It shows a much different Billy than in the later video and the dr we see on tv. Here we see a gentle good hearted man, very self composed and happy in spite of a massive work load. Also he had great taste in music.
I think this is the better way to remember the man than the hurt burned out man in the interview clip after being removed from the show he loved.
If this was in existence when the documentary drama was made,i think we would have had a better contrast as to what he was like.. I would love to hear William Russel opinion on which was more like him.

If this was in existence when the documentary drama was made,i think we would have had a better contrast as to what he was like.. I would love to hear William Russel opinion on which was more like him. Wonderful write-up. It's wonderful to hear him so sharp and with it. He wasn't doddery at all and as you say his workload was insane. Far more than most TV actors have to endure today - even on Doctor Who which shoots nine months of the year (On a good year)! It just goes to show what an incredible talent he was. I'm delighted to finally hear the real 'Bill.' Let's not forget he was a bit of a broken man by the time the TV interview was filmed. He was doing panto, gave up the job he loved, and his arteriosclerosis was causing him real problems. He had declined significantly. But this audio is the real deal. It's actually Bill, in his own voice, in his prime. He's with it, on the ball and fascinating to listen to. It's how he deserves to be remembered, not from that grumpy Points West report. I was delighted to be informed about the recovery - when I listened to it for the first time the first piece of music seemed to last forever! I was dying to hear Bill and when I did he didn't disappoint. What's wonderful it I was given access to it the moment it went live - so I may have been one of the first people to listen to Bill's DID since August 1965! On your last point, after I shared the interview, Mark Gatiss got in touch via Twitter. He said David Bradley would love to hear it. Yesterday will be a day I remember for a long, long time. It's lovely to have an online community here which is as passionate about these things as I am!

Kasterborous are reporting there are rumours online it may be a fake/hoax which may explain why the BBC have removed it www.kasterborous.com/2015/01/william-hartnell-long-lost-desert-island-discs/"Interestingly, there are rumours online suggesting that the clip is in fact a very clever fake. Certainly the clip was available to hear on the BBC website earlier today, only to be surprisingly withdrawn a few hours later."

Oh, I do love a conspiracy to keep my mind occupied - now where IS that every so slightly sarcastic, somewhat tired-feeling emoticon? Disclosure, my comment might be my tied to my mild SAD (Seasonal affective disorder) condition.
