I have just taken hold of a huge collection of tapes featuring Culture Club and Boy George on various shows from the 1980's. I have identified two clips as coming from missing shows. One is from the first series of The Saturday Picture Show and another is from Get Set. Dotted throughout thoughout are clips from Wacaday/Wide Awake Club, Get Fresh, Splash, No.73, various news shows, and loads of clips from a channel called Music Box which I gather was some kind of UK cable channel in the 1980's. I am unable to find any info as to the status of any of this material and wondered if anyone had any knowledge of what does or doesn't exist. I have only gone through the first half dozen or so tapes and their are 30 in total.

No. 73 series 1 - 5 (1982 - 1985) is complete. Series 6, 7, & 8 (1986 - 1988) are hit and miss.

Which region were the tapes recorded in? That might help pinpoint any missing news reports.

Which region were the tapes recorded in? That might help pinpoint any missing news reports. I have had a proper chance to look at the news clips now and they are all from ITN and BBC around 1986/87 and all featuring George or Marilyn. I would hope that from this era they would all exist. There's lots of Super Channel stuff too from 1987/88

and loads of clips from a channel called Music Box which I gather was some kind of UK cable channel in the 1980's. Although Music Box was a cable channel, Yorkshire TV showed it throughout the nights for a year or two during the 80's. Perhaps the first UK TV station to go 24/7? I wouldn't be surprised if more people saw the channel on YTV than on cable. Yours will have been recorded from cable though as you also mentioned Super Channel and YTV didn't get that.

Ah, Music Box. Happy memories. Used to enjoy the Power Hour and the Euro Chart. I remember stories at the time about absenteeism from work going through the roof in the YTV area

There are a lot of Yorkshire TV logos on the earlier tapes so that might well explain the Music Box stuff. A lot of the Super Channel stuff has definitely been lifted from other tapes with varying results.

I remember my Dad & brother recording America's Top 10 off Granada Nightime around the same period.

Happy memories indeed. I remember many a time staying up late and falling asleep while watching. When they showed Lionel Richie's 'Dancing On The Ceiling' for the second time that night it was a signal that it was time to get some sleep!
I hated America's Top Ten though. I used to tape music videos I liked and Casey Casem talked so much that he only played about 90 seconds of the video.

A friend of ours did a highlights VHS tape which was great at parties, except for those inexplicable footprints on the ceiling on one memorable occasion
