Does anyone else feel that Christmas is just so '70s somehow? The most memorable and enduring Christmas hits (by Slade, Mud, Wizzard, etc) and the better comedy specials (Morecambe & Wise, the Likely Lads, Steptoe & Son) appeared in the early part of the decade, and the tinsel and glitter - in fact the sheer cheap and cheerful glamour of it all - seems rooted in the years of flares, platform footwear, big lapels and abundance of unruly hair (everywhere). Compliments of the season to everyone

Compliments of the season to everyone Personally, I love some of the old 70's Christmas hits...as a huge John Lennon fan my favourite is Happy Xmas (War is Over) but I'd like to hear Gilbert O'Sullivan's I'm not dreaming off a White Christmas more often Christmas is also great for digging out dvd's of old 60's 70's TV and being nostalgic (as if we need an excuse!) I'm planning my Christmas right now...I'll watch a re-run of my football team Hibs thrashing Hearts 7-0 at their ground! on the 1/1/73 I was at the match it was the day after my 17th birthday...then I'll maybe watch Columbo (after I sweeten my wife with her pressies!)...some Danger Man...Outer Limits...Kung Fu...Randall and Hopkirk Deceased...then drink too much, eat too much and fall asleep on the couch! sheer bliss

Compliments of the season to everyone As I was born in '70 and Slade et al always felt like they've been there since time begun...I should say so. Even though I remember very few Specials when they first went out, it's as if I do because I always watch the likes of Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, if I spot them on somewhere this time of year. I've been re-watching the old BBC Morcambe & Wise shows on DVD for the last couple of weeks and even though they're 'normal' episodes, they have been making me feel all Christmassy! Christmas wishes to you all - and may I wish everyone a peaceful and prosperous 2015.

Xmas specials seemed to really take of in the 1980s.
I was too young to see the earlier Only Fools & Horses ones, but the later ones bring back a lot of memories, as do the One Foot In The Grave specials.

Compliments of the season to everyone Yes i was thinking exactly the same thing for me the Christmases i remember more than any other were the 1970s especially the the glam rock ones the christmas of 1973 in particular stands out for , i can remember my uncles going on about Leo Sayer and his clown make up for "The Show Must Go On" which caused quite a stir in our family at the time .I think this period was the best for xmas singles something which has been sadly neglected in the main since those days.

Showaddywaddy had their finest hour at this time of year - 'Hey Mr Christmas'. Criminally underplayed in the ranks of Christmas songs. Good wishes to all.

Totally agree with you Tony..."Hey Mr Christmas" is a brilliant example of a 70's Christmas song it is just so cheery, just watch this performance of the song and you can't help but feel uplifted? have you ever seen anybody as happy singing a song as Dave Bartram is on this clip...and as you say the song is criminally overlooked... IMO Gilbert O'Sullivan's "I'm Not Dreaming of a White Christmas" is also criminally overlooked...here's the very funny clip from the Les Dawson Show both these songs are on my personal Christmas song list on the Ipod. "Happy Christmas" again folks!
