It's only win /win - either we get Underwater Menace as part of a wider surprise release (of missing episodes/stories) or we get Underwater Menace .... However whilst any reconstructions would be welcome I will cringe if the animation uses the Ice Warrior technique - but I accept that beggars can't be choosers. The Invasion animation was so very apt for the story and Reign of Terror was OK not that I want to re-ignite the debate about animation and detract from what is good news.

I think this could be the last dr who release unless something else is, found.
My interpretation is they delayed it to have something fresh for 2015. (Or a good cover story anyway)
Hopefully they decide to animate the crusades, but I guess time and sales on under water menace may influence.

I've had a horrible thought... What if this is all just a prank...
I don't suppose anyone can show any rock hard proof that BBC Worldwide have actually made this statement?

Maybe they delayed because they thought the other 2 and others may of been found ! That makes more sense than most others...... But i cant get around if they animate this one then why not Web ? Again, maybe they thought Mr Morris found more......

Web special edition anyone?

Web special edition anyone? Yeah, that's something I'd think is surely a possible, isn't it? Animating one ep is a little easier than two. And if they value add to the release with extras, commentary etc - and do the same for Enemy - I think a few of us will get it. I'd have preferred the DVD release was held off, until it was done "right" the first time, but there may be factors to which I'm not privy that precluded this option. Had that been the case, the majority of us still could have bagged the eps on iTunes on day of release, as we did last year. But no matter - if there's any chance of improved editions of those two Troughton classics, I'd be very pleased to see them come out. Another possibility might be some kind of Years DVDs, like the ones they used to have for the VHS range. I think going 60s/70s/80s would be more viable than one per Doctor. There could newly commissioned interviews, extras and odds and sods that may be a mix of new rarities and previously released material, and so on. It could serve to get more leverage for the back catalogue, and encourage new viewers to get up to speed on the origins of the show and why these old stories are worth seeing today. Of course, it might be a generic statement about the entirety of the BBC Worldwide DVD release schedule, and not specifically their plans for Classic Doctor Who offerings. In which case, The Underwater Menace might remain the last hurrah. I guess we'll get a clearer picture in the New Year, one way or the other!

I'd definitely buy Web again if they animated part 3.
But I wouldn't have wanted to wait to have it until it was.

I think it was all about revenue recovery for those two stories. To get the cash back quickly for the buy back off Morris and clean up of those two. That makes sense. I don't think there will be many not prepared to double dip for an animated WEB

Am I the only person who really doesn't care about animation? I prefer telesnap recons.

I'm with you on that one. I'll still buy the DVDs but find animation doesn't sit well beside live action. I would hope one day that motion capture or similar could get a closer feel to the original or perhaps animating the Telesnaps in some way.

I would prefer a galaxy 4 type recon.( full length of course) But if I can't have that, I would rather have animation over a simple telesnap recon like web 3.
Those were already done..

At least with animation you have movement which is far better IMO ......
