Tragic. Sad news. I didn't know Alvin but we shared the same producer. He was apparently a very nice bloke. Condolences to his family and friends.

So sad what with Lyndsey De Paul going recently not a great time for 70s singers at the moment , i clearly remember listening to the radio 1 charts back in 1973 really hoping that Alvin had made no 1 with My Coo Ca Choo RIP Alvin.

Terrible to hear this; he made lots of fun singles in the 60s and 70s I love his rock & roll version of 5 Foot 2, Eyes Of Blue. as heard here... www.youtube.com/watch?v=3c9GirN4Mqs under his real name of Shane Fenton, with his then band - The Fentones. Great version of 'Pretend' too, in the 80s although he was at the height of his fame, in the glam-rock era. Of course as I was a mid 70s - early 80s child, I remember him for the Green-Cross Code PIFs too. I nearly forgot the surprise of catching him onscreen in Hollyoaks when it first started! He always seemed to be such a nice guy. RIP Alvin.

Yes, I was sad to hear this, especially when he had a new album about to come out. Shane Fenton isn't even his real name, either...!

www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZukFh398U4Worth a re-post of the audio from his missing TOTP performance of Good Love Can Never Die from 30th Jan 1975, which I rescued from a cassette recording.

'My Coo Ca Choo' was one of the greatest glam records, but also reaches out of the clichéd genre.
Play it alongside contemporaries like Saturday Nights Alright For Fighting, Lamplight, Forever, Radar Love, Let Me Roll It or Jet (Wings), Rebel Rebel it fits in seamlessly.
RIP Alvin Stardust.
