One of my absolute favorite seasons. Really hard to pick a favorite, but the one I go back to time and time again is Inferno. Strong performances from the entire cast (in both universes), and a terrifying plot line. Just terrific.

Wow.
For me, it is very weird seeing Doctor Who and the Silurians and The Ambassadors of Death so far behind the bookends because these two stories affected me so strongly. The resolution of the Episode 3 cliffhanger of Doctor Who and the Silurians began my disaffection with Star Trek; the dénouement of The Ambassadors of Death firmly ended my idealisation of Gene Roddenberry.
This was the beginning of me becoming a pariah in American SF fandom: as far as I was concerned, until ST broadcast a story where either the opposition to UESPA clearly has equivalent moral ground on an issue and the Federation ultimate created the most immoral act of the conflict or someone like Admiral Cartwright in ST.VI:TUC was portrayed as moral, sympathetic, honourable, well-intentioned, but wrong, and be treated with the respect that is due his previous actions when he is arrested and be allowed to keep his dignity by the leads, then DW was, iMHO, clearly superior. Who knew that this stance old result in ended friendships and death threats? And because my favourite spin-off of ST is DS90210 and I liked the new movies, this ostracisation is likely to stck permanently.
On the upside, they made me practise my religion better and made it easier for me to explain how opposition to your point of view need not be guided by evil, stupidity, erc. Unfortunately, in the current era of American politics, this seems far too rare.

(SPOILER WARNING!) I've only just seen Inferno, and I feel somewhat cheated. For the most part it's well made low-budget horror, but the last episode is a big let down: there is absolutely no explanation of what this green jelly from the center of the Earth is; why it turns humans into red-hot bad-tempered blue werewolves; and what the werewolves actually want, because they certainly have a bee in their bonnet about something. The Doctor doesn't say, and no-one even sees fit to ask him after seven episodes of mayhem! That's bad scriptwriting I'm afraid.

It has been a long time since watching it on VHS and opinion does seem firmly split into 2 camps.

My favorite from this season is inferno. Another Douglas camfield clsssic. While 7 parters normally appear over long, for some reason, this one works. My least favorite was ambassadors of death. I'm sorry. Just not a wow to me.
Still love the silurians.
When I first saw spear head, I watched it on an old fashion ntsc tv. It was a faded print and I wished they did it on tape like the others.
Now that the beautiful bluray has been released with the gorgeous colors, I wish they had done them all on film
