Doctor Who Returns! Well, ever the optimist I was hoping for a big announcement about missing Who episodes to accompany the start of the new season. But alas no. Failing that I was hoping an announcement about the release of a Dvd of "The Underwater Menace." But alas no. If there a missing episodes out there that have been found then a good publicity opportunity has been lost. I have watched Doctor Who since 1963 and continue to watch it. I have missed episodes but thanks to Dvd I have managed see every episode bar 11 and the longer time goes on it looks as if I will never see them. Those 11 are: 1. Marco Polo 3 2. Masterplan 8, 10, 12 3. The Massacre 1 4. The Savages 4 5. Fury from the Deep 1, 5 6. Space Wheel 3, 5 I fell asleep during "The Underwarer Menace" 2 so the Dvd would be nice. That's old Hartnell/Troughton Who,........ and Peter Capaldi.........not a disappointment as the Doctor but the story was a bit rambling. Time will tell. At least I didn't cry. I did at the loss of Hartnell during Power of the Daleks 1.

That WAS The Underwater Menace 2!

At least 2 of your 11 are available on lost in Time DVD, worth checking out.

You fell asleep during UM 2? Then you missed poor Polly almost get turned into a Fish Person. Fortunately the Australian/NZ censors kept that bit for you.

Oh lor! Disappointment overcame my accuracy as I mis-read my notes Masterplan 9 and not 10 Space Wheel 4 not 3 And Space Pirates 6 Yes I do have Lost in Time but I was multi-tasking while creating this thread. That and predictive text. My point is when will the episodes of UM be released on DVD? Why work on restoring it if it's not to be released? DVD format is far from dead. Big films and other TV programs continue to be released. If the answer is as has often been suggested the release is being delayed because other episodes have been found then please raise our hopes and say simply yes, we have more episodes - watch this space.....,, Just looked again at Capaldi. Like all past Doctors he is growing on me.

You missed Master Plan 12? I'd be kicking myself if I'd been watching for 11 weeks and that happened!

Peter Capaldi was very good indeed and I found I enjoyed Deep Breath the third time I watched it. If I watch it as new television and forget I want to view something like a classic episode then that helps enormously.

I agree. Capaldi gets better with more viewings.Deep Breath was better the 2nd viewing, but i really hated it the 1st time to the point i didn't think i'd ever watch it again. Give me Power of the Daleks recon any day of the week.

I do love the reference to POWER OF THE DALEKS in DEEP BREATH-The word "RENEWAL". That's the only exciting part of the episode.

You missed Master Plan 12? I'd be kicking myself if I'd been watching for 11 weeks and that happened! The same thing happened to me with Timeslip. I'd watched most of the 26 episodes religiously in 1970/ 71, only to forget the last episode! I hurredly turned on at the very end to see only the wrap-up of the closing scene and credits - frustration or what!!?! It was only when the VHS release came out in the early '90s that I finally got to see the dramatic conclusion. So I can feel the pain here!

If we miss something we could always catch it later online or record it on the plus channels. However back in the sixties that is just not the case. I have heard many stories of people missing episodes just because they wanted to watch something on ITV or they were working or they lost interest in Doctor Who (As Ian Levine did). This really underlines the tragedy of the Missing Episode saga. I admit that I myself am guilty of the the same flippant attitude that I described regarding television. I remember losing interest in Doctor Who for a bit and it was weeks until I saw all of Matt Smith's last series. I did record them all but that simply wasn't possible in the Sixties. Only the Audio could be recorded in full save for a few off air snippets. I certaintly share your frustration regarding The Underwater Menace DVD, However due to all the rumours flying around I am not really sure to believe. Sometime there is nothing but our burning hope of seeing these past treasures once again that keeps us going in this never ending silence. However you might want to look for some audio recons online. I hear they are exactly like people rememberd them minus the moving pictures. Oh and I thought Peter Capaldi was brilliant as The Doctor in Deep Breath.

It's the great tragedy of missing television that not only was it wiped but (in the majority of cases) only ever screened once. So if you failed to see it on that transmission, there was no other chance. This was the case with virtually all '60s DW as well as (e.g.) Top Of The Pops and most other programmes you care to mention. Repeats were the exception and only really happened with a comparative handful of programmes.

I was distraught when my parents stopped me watching Ep 3 of The Green Death for misbehaving when it was first shown.
It seems the Green Death is now never off the Horror Channel here in the UK.
But missing ep 12 of Masterplan - no such luck with repeat showings or the magic of DVD for you John, unfortunately.
