Animation studio Planet 55 have issued the following statement regarding their involvement with creating animated episodes of Doctor Who:
There have been many queries about Planet 55 Studios's work on Doctor Who and whether we are doing any more.
To date, Planet 55 Studios has completed work on three Doctor Who animated reconstructions for BBC Worldwide's DVD range: The Reign of Terror, The Tenth Planet and most recently The Moonbase. We really enjoyed creating those but they are the only Doctor Who stories Planet 55 Studios have worked on and there are no plans to work on any more.
At the moment the company is focused on animation projects completely unconnected to Doctor Who.
The release comes as the status of the last expected classic series DVD, The Underwater Menace, remains uncertain.

Sad news. It also states that they never worked on them which is different than never completed.

I dread to think the comments that are being made on Outpost Skaro right now... The thing is, this only makes the rumour persist What else could it possibly do........

Maybe the reason for the delay to UM was waiting for Planet 55 to be available to start on the animation, then, not to finish it. That would make sense to me. Sad news, though.

Were they ever ACTUALLY commisioned to do the Underwater Menace? Their website suggested they were as they had someone listed as working on it.

The website, several months ago, had a listing for Underwater Menace and a separate listing for an unknown Doctor Who project. They were later taken down, along with the name of the animator who they fell under.
There's too many viable reasons as to what happened, and a bit silly to immediately assume that this is proof that episodes 1 and 4 are back.
Perhaps Planet 55 raised their rates beyond BBC's comfort level. Perhaps BBC wasn't happy with the sales of Reign, Moon, or Tenth.
And perhaps there really is something to Morris' search that has caused BBC to put the project on hold.
I think the cancellation (Is it cancellation if it wasn't officially announced?) is just that. Planet 55 saying they aren't doing any more Doctor Who projects at this time. We need to wait to see what the next step is, and that is in BBC's court.
... I will say though: if that rumor of a large return is true, then Underwater Menace has a lot of reasons to be one of (if not the) first DVDs out. They've got VAM and two restored episodes.

I think a lot of the change is due to the changein DVD from 2e to bbc combined with the price upgrade.
If there is a DVD release, I expect it To be still recons like web. While I preffered the invasion style animation, I'm disappointed if what I fear turns out to be true.

Which i think more will be at some point ! Trouble is loose cannons have already done it If rumour is true then not much will need doing anyway !

Any concern that the BBC forgot about Underwater Menace Episode 2 (silly to think that they would) has been relieved. Per the "Doctor Who Missing Episodes Discussion Group" on Facebook, the question was posed to BBC Worldwide in an email who then responded that it was still being worked on. Good to know!
