Wish we could have had her look at where this warehouse supposedly was and take a few photos for us.

Did you throw out the pictures as well? That could have been an amazing resource..

Yup all long gone, I junked them probably even before the epis themselves were junked. And believe me no-one is missing anything they were tiny things cut out from the middle of the prints!

I'm glad your friend had fun in Sierra Leone, she didn't bump into any 16mm film collectors out there did she?!

Lots of people missing arms and legs, but no film collectors. She told me they made the children kill their family during the war, stuff like that, so the reintegration of society has been hard. BUT apparently today a lot of very good things are happening there and it's a very dynamic society of course with a lot of mineral wealth which they now hope to exploit.

Maybe she will be going again, if so I might very tentatively mention the film archive thing... Or even, I might be interested to visit SL too from what she told me of it.

I have been asked by a member to put down my memories of the trailer for an Unearthly Child:-
I shall try to remember. Please note I was only 9 and it was a long time ago.
The start of the opening sequence (the upward moving shaft of light) with male voice over:-
Starting on Saturday evening a new adventure series set in time and space
Cut to scenes of Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright in a classroom at Coal Hill School. They are discussing a strange pupil who knows so much and so little. (presumably footage from the first episode). It then focused on a shot of Susan (head to thigh, wearing dress with black belt as in first episode)
Male voice over:- "Why are two teachers at Coal Hill School intrigued by one of their pupils? Who is Susan Foreman and what what mysterious secrets are she hiding?
(cut to dematerialisation sequence from Unearthly Child with Dr Who's face superimposed over "time" clouds)
Voice over:- "and who is the mysterious Doctor?.
An Unearthly Child is the first episode of an exciting new adventure series set in time and Space."
Doctor Who begins at 5.25 (next) on Saturday."

The trailer I first saw transmitted after what ever programme was on Saturday 16th November 1963 (Gary Halliday) and repeated after Tonight on Thursday 21st November 1963

I cannot guarantee that the words in the voice over are 100% accurate but I am fairly sure of the images and the overall gist in the above. I would love to see it recreated or even better if any one else shares my recollections or there is official documentation for this trailer.

I hope this helps. I have on tape the trailer for Star Trek following the end of the War Games.

I shall start a separate thread for my notes of missing episodes.

I'm not sure if it's your recording but the Star Trek trailer has done the rounds online.

My earliest memory is of a Hartnell where they have been shrunk and are stuck down a plughole. Somehow a live matchhead is down there and they manage to strike it, which alerts a normal sized person who is doing the dishes (or something).

I have since discovered that this episode has actually survived !

Hi

Thought i might like to add to this thread.

Not exactly my own memories of the classic series at all, but my parents told me they remembered seeing some Hartnell and Troughton stories, they were fans, watching all the way up to Tom Baker.
Both of them recall Marco Polo- barely. Dad remembers many "characters with beards" (Obviously)
But the most interesting part is that my Dad can actually vividly remember a scene from Episode 4 of the Massacre, "Bell of Doom".
In it, when the Constable of France tells the Queen "Surely you're not going to rouse the mob and kill the innocent?"... and Dad said there was a close up of the Queen's face, raising her eyebrow as she said "Innocent?"
I told them that many of their memories are from stories that are considered missing.
Just thought I'd share what I was told.
Also, I am aware that John W King is transcribing his notes from the initial broadcasts. I think this a fantastic way in recreating the lost episodes in the future. Here's to some more episodes being unearthed...eventually.

Similar to the above post, my dad has memories of watching the Pertwee and Baker episodes, including seeing Mind of Evil episode 1 and Invasion episode 1 in colour. Unfortunately I have no memories of the classic series myself, my earliest memories are of watching Rose on it's original transmission, and the trailer with Christopher Eccleston talking to the camera.

On another thread about the Meet the Kids (a hospital visit Christmas Programme) I have added this memory. But since it is also relevant to this thread here it is:-
These visits to children's hospitals were later extended to other Bank Holiday's. I have clear memories of Rolf Harris talking to a young boy patient about his favourite programme which was Doctor Who. Rolf asks if he remember's the Doctor's last encounter with the Daleks. Rolf explained the Doctor and his companions had followed the Daleks to their home planet Skaro. The encounter ended in a massive battle between the Daleks.
Asked if he would like to see it again the boy nodded. The epic battle from episode 7 of the Evil of the Daleks was then shown ending in a massive explosion.
Return to Rolf who said "Good news for all Doctor Who fans as that story will be shown in it's entirety in a few weeks on BBC1".
I am not certain but I believe this Meet the kids "episode" was shown on Bank Holiday Whit Monday 1968. However I have never seen this mentioned in any other Doctor Who documentation. Am I the only sad s*d to have watched this broadcast of Meet the Kids? Does any one have any old Radio Times to confirm whether my memory is genuine or at fault?

I have vague memories of the Patrick Troughton era - the bloke in the kilt (who I now know was Fraser Hines) , Victoria etc and also the Ice Warriors with their hissing voices (who I found really frightening) . I was only 3 or possibly 2 at the time going from when the Ice Warriors appeared and knowing what house we were living in at the time and knowing we moved from there in July 1969.

Similar to my memories! I remember the very first episode, I was 5, and I was hooked and obsessed by Dr Who/sci-fi and pop music (and nothing has changed in the slightest since). Saturdays were all about Dr Who and Thank Your Lucky Stars, I have schoolbooks from 1964 with pictures of Tardis, Dr Who and episode reviews of a few (more plot descriptions than opinions, but hey I was 6...!)

Big memories, Daleks (saw the films at the pictures), one of the butterfly/caterpillar ladies getting her head stuck in a wall in The Web Planet, the Toymaker, Katrina dying in an airlock (oh that shocked me!), Ben & Polly staying behind, Victoria waving bye during the seeweed foam thingy episodes. I used to have nightmares about Cybermen and Ice Warriors...

Troughton was my fave Doctor, and I was lucky enough to see his episodes twice - in 1969, just before the end of his run, we moved to Singapore for two years where they were showing them on TV (Victoria/Zoe/Jamie period), so I have good memories of most of the run, and none of the first two Pertwee years! So, "my" doctor had a 5-year run and Pertwee was just a 2-year fill-in:)

cheers
john

PS the last 7 years have been awesome!

I noticed John King started sharing his memories, and that sadly came to a stop. I still hope to hear more of those as written in his logs.

Also, since John Vincent has seen the Troughton's twice (something I dont think many can say) It would be interesting to read his memories if he ever decides to try to recreate them.

If only you were in Singapore a few years earlier! You could've confirmed to us if you saw Mission to the Unknown there! :3

My memories are more just fragments of episodes really, sadly, but some seemed to be memorable and some I've more or less forgotten. I loved the Yeti episodes and remember them walking the streets and tube in London (I knew mid-60's London as we used to live in Chesham when I did my schoolstories, one attached:)

Oddly, I never got to see the final Troughton epsiode either time, as we flew end of august 69 and 71, so had to wait 20 years to catch it!

Oh God, that's adorable. "The Loin" ... :)

Childhood schoolwork is all indicative of the times. My journal is full of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

You have any more John Vincent? That's pretty cool actually.
