Definitely problems on satellite BBC Four last week. My recording of The Singing Detective on Sky was unwatchable for the same reason, and a friend who has Freesat had the same problem on several things that she watches. Ironically, I recorded the late night version on my Freeview PVR on Thursday, and it was split into 2 portions of 17 minutes' each. Have no idea why ... have re-recorded last night (Sat) and am hoping for the best.

GG just turned up on The best of the tube on Sky Arts,so it looks like attitudes are softening.

And did anyone notice tonight, Gary Glitter was NOT edited out of the 7.30 showing of TOTP 1977.

p.s.
Thanks for posting that Julie Covington interview!

Heads up for this.
Apparently BBC4 are not going to screen the recently recovered 31/3/77 (from David Hamilton's collection). as part of the 1977 series of re-runs.

What is the point of having these recoveries only to get locked up in an archive never to be seen again.

I've just fired off another e-mail to the Beeb asking why they are not intending showing it. If we all do the same then perhaps they may relent.

Had a reply back.
The standard ' we cannot comment on individual shows.....blah......"

Poor customer feedback from the beeb yet again!

Can't comment on individual shows?!? But that's what your query relates to - something specific! So what can they comment on? Something extremely generalised and vague maybe?

Useless customer feedback.

I've just send another e-mail asking for more information on this lacluster response they have given.

If others on here have more direct contacts at the BBC then perhaps it would be the best time to contact them, after 31/3/77 has been missed out, the chance of it ever being shown will be pretty remote.

The quality is probably the key factor here, if the recovery is sourced from VHS tape there will be drop outs, colour loss etc and it doesn't look to exciting anyway. :-/

31-3-77: Presenter: David Hamilton

(13) BILLY OCEAN – Red Light Spells Danger
(NEW) BLUE – I’m Gonna Capture Your Heart
(6) ELVIS PRESLEY – Moody Blue (danced to by Legs & Co)
(2) DAVID SOUL – Going In With My Eyes Open (danced to by Legs & Co)
(NEW) DAVID DUNDAS – Another Funny Honeymoon
(29) LYNSEY DE PAUL & MIKE MORAN – Rock Bottom
(42) THE STYLISTICS – 7000 Dollars And You
(28) BONNIE TYLER – More Than A Lover
(8) BERNI FLINT – I Don’t Want To Put A Hold On You ฎ
(1) ABBA – Knowing Me Knowing You (video)

Frankly, like many others here, I don't care about the quality, I'd just like to see it! Even though there aren't exactly many exciting performances on that show (apart from the two Legs & Co ones!).
As others have stated before, the BBC has screened several shows and compilations recently with quality issues, so I can't see why they wouldn't show this one!

They could also have started the 1976 run a few weeks earlier if I recall correctly. I'm sure a few other recovered editions from early 1976 via David Hamilton were skipped then too. I still think it's a crying shame the Beeb didn't decide to air every TOTP left in the archive up to the run of 1976 and onwards. I can't see how likely it'll ever be we get to see the other episodes not shown on Eins Festival.

A number of issues here. Firstly I don't think we know for definite yet that this is not being shown. I'm guessing Paul picked up on a Facebook post of mine that I had emailed the BBC to ask if this edition is being shown, as the Sky at Night is on 5th April when I would have expected this to be shown.

I have also had a reply from the BBC, automated waffle which I can't be bothered repeating here due to its irrelevance.

Secondly the source was N1500 not VHS, and those who have seen it say the quality is fine. I forget whether I read that here, on Popscene, Facebook or elsewhere.

Thirdly, whether it is exciting or not is irrelevant. I have about half the show on audio tape and personally I think it's a good show.

Finally, the correct running order has been known for a while now, can everyone please stop quoting the random order previously circulated:

Blue - "Gonna Capture Your Heart" (new release)
Billy Ocean - "Red Light Spells Danger" (13)
David Soul - "Going In With My Eyes Open" (2) (Legs & Co)
David Dundas - "Another Funny Honeymoon" (new release)
Lynsey De Paul & Mike Moran - "Rock Bottom" (29)
Berni Flint - "I Don't Want To Put A Hold On You" (8) (rpt from 17/03/77)
The Stylistics - "7000 Dollars & You" (42)
Bonnie Tyler - "More Than A Lover" (28)
Abba - "Knowing Me Knowing You" (1) (video)
Elvis Presley - "Moody Blue" (6) (crowd/credits)

Thanks to Jarvis3132 from Popscene for placing David Soul as this is not apparent from my tape, and to the "One For The Dads" site for confirming that Legs & Co did not dance to Elvis on this show, therefore it must have been the playout.

The advance schedule listed on "digiguide" shows that the next show after 'The Sky at Night' on 12th April is 07/04/1977 hosted by David Jensen.
