I suppose it's possible that the Cassidy/Glitter change was done for that reason, but I can't imagine what anyone had against 'Rat Trap' or 'Chelsea Girl'!

On a related note, does anyone know if the episodes of 'Sounds of the 80s' had individual titles?

I've got 5 & 8 on VHS from the 1995 daytime repeats.
The opening & closing montages were also removed, partually because of the "Tonight on.." & "Next week..." v/o.

BBC2 are showing a half-hour episode on Monday 16th April as part of their 1970's Season. Maybe they'll show the full series again?

It seems that Sounds Of The Seventies on 16th April is the first of a new series, let's hope we see some rare performances this time. Kinks, Roxy Music and Elton John are in the first show hopefully they won't show Lola yet again.

The word from the BBC itself is that they aren't showing anything from the original series. Lola and Virginia Plain weren't featured, so expect it to be them. The Elton John could be anything from 1970- 1973 though.

The 70s: 1970-1972 Ep 1/4
Monday 16 April
Time to be confirmed
BBC TWO
Historian and self-confessed 70s enthusiast Dominic Sandbrook takes a radical look at a decade which he claims shaped the Britain of today.
The early years of the 70s were marked by aspiration and ambition, as a newly affluent nation reached for greater material reward - with profound implications for politics, the economy and society as a whole.
As mortgage availability increased, millions stepped on the property ladder, swapping city terraces for airy suburban new-builds and fuelling a massive housing boom. According to Dominic it was this new materialism which blurred class barriers, creating a society that would embrace the ideals that eventually Thatcherism would embody: “We think that Margaret Thatcher created this, but they created her.”
A critical moment in shaping new Britain was PM Ted Heath’s conviction that Britain should be a part of Europe. This was combined with the new wave in foreign travel, as millions of tourists soaked up the sun in the Spanish Costas returning with a taste of Europe and an enthusiasm for wine drinking.
The arrival of thousands of Ugandan Asians in 1972 tested the tolerance of the nation. Dominic compares the hostility of the anti-immigration lobby to the welcome that was offered to these immigrants in some provincial towns.
Culturally, the 70s saw an onslaught of a different kind for the traditional male, as youth embraced the flamboyance of Marc Bolan and David Bowie’s provocative assertions of bisexuality. This sowed a seed of sexual tolerance as well as a greater assertiveness of gay identity, Dominic argues.
THIS IS NOT SOUNDS OF THE 70'S PT2:
We’ve a series of ‘Sounds of the 70s 2’ and ‘TOTP2’ coming up on BBC Two in the spring and summer. ‘Sounds of the 70s 2’ will not repeat anything in series 1 but it won’t be about showing rare archive footage although there’ll be some included. The shows are designed to celebrate a time period and a genre as best as we can.

For the first episode of SOTS2, my predictions are (and these weren't featured on the original series):
Kinks- 'Lola' Roxy Music- 'Virginia Plain' New York Dolls- anything that isn't 'Jet Boy' Elton John- Probably 'Your Song'/'Daniel', most likely 'Tiny Dancer' Queen- Surely has to be one of those rediscovered tapes Sparks- Surely a later number, only 'Town ain't Big Enough' exists from the early years right? Rod Stewart- HOPING for 'Angel' or 'You Wear It Well', but will likely be 'Maggie May'

Sounds of the 70s BBC 2 TV Monday 16th April 2012 22:00 to 22:30 BST
Arthouse Glam - Get in the Swing.
This new series kicks off with performances from The Kinks, Roxy Music, Elton John, New York Dolls, Queen, Sparks, Rod Stewart and the rediscovered David Bowie performance of The Jean Genie from January 1973. Welcome to gender-bending, boys getting in the swing and girls who would be boys and boys who would be girls in this mixed-up, shook-up 70s world.
Let's hope this is like the original series, performances in full and in their correct aspect ratio. I'm worrying the fact it's on BBC2 it may be ruined by making it in the widescreen format?

It won't..... hopefully, only using 4:3 footage. What I hope dosen't happen as well are captions. The last series worked perfectly, so here's hoping this does as well.

Let's hope they don't tamper with the original format - which worked well - or add extra captions.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed now for a second series of Sounds Of The Sixties!

The Sparks performance will be "Get In The Swing", hopefully the Kinks will be "Acute Schizophrenia Paranoia Blues" and Elton John with "Grimsby" both from OGWT. The New York Dolls clip will be 'Looking For A Kiss" also from OGWT.

The Kinks is definitely 'Lola', you can get this by reading the BBC2 description a couple of posts up. Elton John could indeed be 'Grimsby' or anything else.

I'm very much hoping Roxy Music is the Street Life performance found at the BFI last year. Would also like to see Rod Stewart doing You Wear it Well, though it's a shame it's not him with the Faces doing a great Bad n Ruin.

BBC Four know about the BFI recovery. Although the programme was already in production when I told then in March at my meeting.
