A quick heads up for BBC4 tonight and Oil City Confidential about Dr Feelgood. I am really surprised it is on tv so soon after release but is very welcome. That's followed by a sight and sound in concert featuring the band. A good evening of entertainment. I will be interested to get people's views on the doc afterwards.

Me too! Very well made and even though it was 100 minutes, didn't seem a second too long. Quite sad how it all fell away for them. Although they were definitely a four man team, the group lost an edge when Wilko left and they became just another blues-rock band. The In Concert performance that followed the film proved this. Are there any other similar concerts from the Wilko era?
Does anyone know how much difference there was between this screening and the version seen in cinemas? I noticed several segments that were on VT, which wouldn't obviously have been that way in screenings. Can anyone who saw the film in a cinema say if these were just additions or had it been amended to any degree?
An unusual film for cinema distribution, I was still surprised it made it's way to TV so quickly. If they could bring out a DVD release of it with full length versions of those and other Dr. Feelgood performances used as extras then i'd be persuaded to buy!

I was very pleased with this doc. They really managed to paint a good picture of the Thames Delta circa 1974! I was swept right back to the days of pub rock, Chilli Willi and the Red Hot Peppers and the Stiff tour! Lots of good clips too.
One question on this topic (not a clip in the doc though), there is a famous Feelgoods appearance on Youtube where the group are playing She Does It Right on a teenagers pop show surrounded by the audience dancing. Does anyone know what show this is from and if it exists in broadcast quality? The Youtube copy is a pretty poor home recording but it's a wonderful appearance of them at their peak and I just hope it exists in the official archives.

Looking forward to seeing the docu on the old hdd this week!

Yes could be Geordie Scene. Thanks Kevin. Do all of these exist in the archives?

Yes, it was definitely the Geordie Scene appearance. I was at school when that was originally shown. The next day everybody was raving about their apperance. Especially Wilko Johnson. Never forgot it. So pleased it survives. nb: I remember the presenter Dave Eager 'Beaver' introduced one song on TOTP. Jimmy Saville was the host.

I saw the cinema showing (with the live Wilko concert after), and was quite surprised at the speed it was shown on TV, however a DVD release has been promised in June with bags of extras (it would be nice if the full Geordie Scene show is included).
Re. edits, I can't really remember if certian things weren't edited or not, but one particular moment was completely lost on the small screen. The chap being interviewed under the canel bridge who looked a bit like John Otway but could have been Richard Hell?, anyway at the cinema showing, this scene showed him being interviewed, he suddenly paused, both him and the camera discretly turned towards the canel to watch two ducks chasing & swaquking at each other under the bridge, the camera then returned to the interviewee without comment, but the whole cinema fell about laughing at that dry moment. When it was shown on TV, the scene cut to him at the same time as the ducks were racing through the tunnel and so the moment was lost. It was irrelevant, but it did make me think what else had been cut. This film needs to seen at the cinema with like minded souls.
I just want to add that I met Lee Brilleaux after a Feelgoods gig in 1990, and I met Wilko after a gig in 1997. What a pair of absolute gents! I only spent 3mins with Lee, but had 20minutes with Wilko. If I never meet rock gods of that standing ever again, I would be happy with that.

I've been looking forward to this for a long time. Great stuff. I've also been looking forward to a repeats of the Sight and Sounds in Concert with The Feelgoods and Ian Dury and The Blockheads. I've worn my old VHS copy of that episode when it was repeated on VH1 in the 90's. So I programmed the Sky Plus box, went to bed, socially aware up Saturday morning. The Sky plus had recorded Oil City Confidential but the Sight and Sound in Concert failed So no worries, i'll catch it on the Iplayer. And guess what? They're not showing it. Anyone know why the BBC Can show Oil City Confidential around 3 times on BBC4 over the past weekend yet will only show S+S In concert once and then not allow repeat viewings on their iplayer? ? Very annoying I can tell you. Blooming "rights" again???
