Hi Ray
I'm glad its going well.
I agree that the BBC and ITV can be hopeless at losing stuff or not cataloguing it, but I will categorically state that EVERY piece of missing footage returned to us goes on the public list for Raiders every year that we publish. We circulate that list around Focal and the TV companies so every company can come to us for the footage, we tell all the DVD companies to encourage them to license it, and of course we show a lot of it at our events.
Indeed with a music event in June we would love to show every find.
However, what is fact is that we get offered very little material even as just DVDs, many collectors out there know the value of what they hold and keep it to themselves. That's their choice, we respect that, but we would love to show it in June 2010, so encourage people to offer us material. We don't need a physical copy, they can always bring it with them and take it away again, we just want genuine fans to be able to see long lost classics.
Thanks
Chris

I copied the clip the second I saw it and have been watching it on my DVD player these past few days. Great quality too.

The missing Hollies "Bus Stop" clip is indeed an incredible find leading to the hope that other "inserts" may continue to surface in the future.
To pick up on the very good point about the BBC sending such inserts overseas but not retaining them during this period there are more examples of this. Whilst I do not believe the BBC have used this Del Shannon clip in any programme such as TOTP2 etc this item is from "Rock N Roll The Greatest Years 1965" Look closely and you will see Jimmy Saville dancing at his presentation table beside the Top 20 board on this clip from January 1965.
It is for all of us to remain diligent and "Keep Searching" in the hope other gems continue to be unearthed.

that "Keep Searching" clip has been used at least twice on TOTP2... a great clip, and unusual to see a first wave Rock and Roll act in their prime on TOTP. You're right, it should be the missing pop footage collectors theme song.

Does anybody have a list of some of the Top of the Pops clips which are out there that may survive due to the jukebox distribution? Just wondered. Is this line of searching being followed up by anyone? It would be good to think that there are a fair amount of these out there waiting to be found. From what Ray said, it would seem this is so.
Of course it would be great to get the Hollies clip back to the archives in broadcast standard but the Youtube appearance at least proves that it is out there and surviving!

What would be nice is if the American gentleman who put the Hollies clip onto youtube was to upload an uncompressed copy onto one of the file hosts such as Rapids**** or Sends**** so mortals like us can have our own high quality copy. Speaking of which do the BBC still own the copyright even though they thought the clip was lost?

Great to hear that the BBC sent inserts around the globe before 1971 Disco era. I always suspected this was the case because of the long known Autumn Almanac by The Kinks looking like it existed because of this policy, if this line of enquiry could be persued who knows what else might turn up! Does the BBC now officially acknowledge that this practice was happening despite the lack of written archive to back it up?

All copies of the clip have been removed from Youtube. Why is this?

No idea. I would get in touch with the subscriber direct. There could be a number of reasons.
These things do need to be downloaded - for posterity purposes ASAP, in my opinion, by those that have the facility to do it (i.e those of you that OWN computer!).

Thanks very much for that Tim. The clip has actually been removed by the YT poster himself. It had clocked up 2000 views in one week. Maybe he thought it was attracting too much attention. But that's just my speculation.

That is interesting. At least the poster of the clip must know by this that it has much rarity value and therefore won't be casually disposed of. I just hope that a proper copy can be returned to the archive and then screened as part of the 2010 finds at next year's missing believed wiped.
This situation though highlights a real problem for recovering lost recordings in so much as there seems to be no one official chasing up things like The Hollies clip even when the material is proved to exist and even the owner is identified. It is frustrating to know things are out there but not recovered safely (and therefore the material is not utilised and most people never get to see it again). A classic piece of sixties pop television like this should not be ignored and should be celebrated for what it is (there are so few examples like this surviving anyway). Let us hope that the archives do not underestimate the worth of such clips?

Keep an eye on ebay is probably the best advice, because I bet that's where we'll see it next.
I notice that the uploader has added 'not for broadcast' captions all over the clips on his page. Of course, he's certainly within his rights to do that and in some cases wise to as lots of clips gets lifted directly from You Tube for documentaries and news clips, although it's probably best to select the option in preferences that states that You Tube can't syndicate the clips for television use. I would imagine that this is why The Hollies TOTP clip has vanished. I usually watermark or timecode anything rare or missing that has television potential. That way they have to come to me directly. I then point them in the direction of the rights holder and if required, and the rights holder doesn't have a physical copy of the material, supply the clip for a machine fee subject to licensing for broadcast with the relevant copyright holder.

I just remembered.....does anyone know any more about that rehearsal colour Xmas TOTP 1969 footage that was posted on You Tube a long while ago now...... Did it come from a quad VT source, as it looks in very good condition....Are any of the clips contained on there actual "broadcast" clips or are they all rehearsal footage... I am still curious where this turned up and how it survives...
And - is this clip (also been around for a while, so apologies if it's been answered elsewhere within these forums!) from the same edition? I presume it's TOTP? I would strongly guess that this certainly wasn't the broadcast version!!!!!
