Urgent message for DAN regarding rumour of OFF AIR RECORDING of the Steptoe & Son episode POT BLACK. Please urgently contact our website www.steptoe-and-son.comMany thanks Ron It was just a rumour I heard a long time ago. The person telling me led me to believe it wasn't rare or anything. The fact that you've not heard of it leads me to believe I was being led up the garden path.

Actually, I think those are a list of the episodes he does have. Could be worth finding out if the episodes he has are in colour or not (where applicable).

The fact that the 2 episodes he lists as missing exist and in colour leads me to believe it's a list of what he does have.
He says "SEASON 6 (Colour)" so you'd think he'd say if he only had the episodes in b&w. Worth someone checking it out I suppose.

See? I can be somewhat useful sometimes rather than an annoying enthusiast. Why don't you e-mail him Dan since you know what you're talking about? His e-mail address is on this page: www.webspawner.com/users/tazonline/links.html

I don't know why the BBC don't re-colourize these episodes and put them back on as a season of Steptoe and Son.I'm sure the viewing figures would justify the expense.

I recall reading, though am not certain, that it costs approximately £20,000 to colourise a single 25-minute episode from scratch. Even Doctor Who: Planet of the Daleks, Episode Three and Doctor Who: Invasion[ of the Dinosaurs], Part One haven't been recolourised and they're both the only black and white episode in a six-part serial that otherwise exists in colour. Plus, Doctor Who has a much larger fan base than Steptoe and Son, so if those episodes haven't been recolourised due to cost, I think Steptoe and Son is very unlikely to be recolourised either. That is just my opinion, of course. However, I imagine that, in the future, technology will advance enough to allow the recolourisation process to be performed at a much cheaper cost than it currently does. When (or if?) that happens, I'm sure we expect both Steptoe and Son and Doctor Who (as well as others - Timeslip, hopefully) to be recolourised where appropriate.

How much would an episode of Steptoe cost the BBC to repeat anyway.20,000 pounds seems quite a low figure for a 30 min prime time slot?

They appear on the Ken Dodd show from 66 in a skit on a imaginary beach.
That exists.

Has anyone mailed him? I'd love to see the missing color eps. I forwarded the link onto Dick Fiddy, but I haven't heard anything since his first reply. I would assume, in this instance, no news means no colour episodes. (Just in case you don't realise, "Ben" is me. I've explained elsewhere why I was using an alias for awhile.)
