As well as listing several missing episodes of 'Play School' under that title, the BFI also lists the show under such headings as 'Useful Box Day','Ideas Day','Dressing Up Day'.'Pets Day',etc. While they give the year of transmission, they give no more exact date. Am I right in thinking that these haven't been covered? If so,is there a way of ascertaining the dates so that we can check if they're lost, and then ask the BFI to make an actual search, where necessary?

Kal have published a fantastic book on Play School. I haven't got it though, so I can't tell you a lot more.

The books are very detailed and do list what survives, but I think Lostshows does now aswell. Anyway I have asked the NFA about all their holdings of Play Away, Vision On and Play School so we can cross-check what the BBC say. They may have been sent some 2" that the BBC did not copy.
As for Alan Rushton, our Play School author knows him and is asking him about his collection.

Has 'NWA' been done? The BFI lists a couple of dates that seem to bear no relation to TX dates, plus: 'John Conteh: From the Opposite Corner' 23/9/1997. 'Kingdom of Comedy' 30/9/1997. Both 'existence unknown'.
Mind you,the BFI Database has it as "Fame: John Conteh etc".
Also 'Circuses. With Big Top' (AKA 'Big Top') 20/4/1973 hasn't been mentioned,I think?.Or is it included under "All the circus titles from Thames are on Digibeta"?

There's a copy of Jools Holland's 'Happening' listed for 20/1/1991. Lostshows has the 19/1/1991 edition listed as being on an inferior format.

Cool. Check them against BBCMG?
Already done that with London's Screen Archive ""1970"" episode (which is actually from 1974 and NOT missing).

When I've tried to check the BBC's holdings, all I can find are invitations to visit the gift shop to buy a DVD of my granny running a whelk stall.

I believe this is the 'Aquarius' show from 1971, 3rd April, LWT which should exist in full at ITN Source.
