 BFI 'finds'
« Thread Started on May 25, 2012, 8:28am »

Given the volume of material apparently showing up at the BFI, I have set this up as a potential generic thread so that the board doesn't get entirely swamped with BFI discoveries.

My own contribution is as follows:

The Golden Shot (18/11/73) apparently exists complete at the BFI.

Lost shows states the following:
18.11.73 with Charlie Williams, Anne Aston (Golden Girl), Dana, Ken Goodwin, Jeannie Collings (Maid of the Month), Steve Ford
One or more sequences exist, but the complete programme is lost.

Interesting...

Good idea Ken.

I emailed the BFI yesterday about the Wednesday Play find, not had a response yet. This is all good, but I am not getting too excited yet. The old search engine as you know just listed stuff. This new one (unionsquare one) should be correct - I was told that officially - but I fret, you know.

Searched http://www.londonsscreenarchives.org.uk using the search term "Garnett"

Results include the episode "Intolerance" , listed as being 30 minutes long.

Listed at http://www.btinternet.com/~m.brown1/tilldeat.htm as "extract exists"
BFI might just have the existing extract but 30 mins sounds like the full episode. It's worth checking out.

This is SO much work to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can see my lunchtimes next week are going to be busy!!!!

The thumb rule with the BFI is if you search through the 'unionsquare' search engine (when it's operational - it can be tempramental, trust me....if it's on there it exists! That search engine is also the londonsscreenarchive or yourfilmarchive one. They end up at the same place.

One thing I would NOT pay attention to AT ALL is timings. From what are gather there are inaccuracies there.

But well done to Pete and also jgreen too.

Some of the stuff found IS missing, not all, but I get lots wrong too NOW, and I am not a newbie to the site or subject any more, whereas you two are.

This is what we want and need and THANK you.

Might I enquire how it is that you go about confirming these finds?

Two missing episodes of Rupert Bear.

This one exists, with burnt in subtitles. I don't know if this is the same, or a clean print.

I really don't mind if I do! The important thing is finding footage. I don't think I have a 'crown', anyway. Kal and Tim Disney (as two examples) find and RECOVER more footage than I do. In terms of DISCOVERING footage thought lost, if other people find more GREAT! That's what I want. If I've encouraged anyone in any way, that's good enough for me, although, I'm not sure I've even done that!

Can someone personal message me tomorrow, so I don't forget to double check these are in the BFI (I'm not doubting anyone, just need to double check, it should always happen), and I will also do independent checks on the New Faces with my New Faces expert, similarly with Rupert with my ATV expert. But looking good, and sorry I didn't have time to do it today.

New Faces[Rc24/06/74] ITV have it

New Faces Gala Final 1978 ITV have it

New Faces Winners Show 1976 ITV have it

New Faces[29/12/73] ITV have it
New Faces[21/09/74] FIND
New Faces[21/06/75] ITV have it
New Faces[27/03/76] ITV have it (list recording date)
New Faces[15/05/76] ITV have it
New Faces[11/12/76] ITV have it
New Faces[20/11/76] ITV have it
New Faces[30/10/76] ITV have it
New Faces[09/10/76] ITV have it
New Faces[29/05/76] ITV have it
New Faces[24/04/76] ITV have it
New Faces[11/09/76] ITV have it
New Faces[18/12/76] ITV have it
New Faces[29/01/77] ITV have it (list recording date)
New Faces[12/03/78] ITV have it
New Faces[12/02/78] ITV have it
New Faces[05/03/78] FIND
New Faces[26/02/78] ITV have it
New Faces[19/02/78] ITV have it
New Faces[29/01/78] ITV have it
New Faces[26/03/78] ITV have it
New Faces[05/02/78] FIND
New Faces[19/03/78] ITV have it
New Faces[22/01/78] ITV have it

Now three finds may look not a lot, but these are important finds, but it's good to know that the rest exist. Interestingly, the years with the most casualties are 1973, 1975 and 1977!

lostshows.com have been informed of what exists at BFI and ITV, by the way.

Pete, the three finds are credited to you, obviously.

What about the BFI's 'lost' Twizzle episode? I found a listing for that years ago but no one ever followed it up.

Can you find me the reference again and I will try to. Bear in mind, I am being a ginourmous pain in the jacksie to the BFI and BBC, who are probably sick to death of me....
