Could it be part of a longer series?

i couldnt find any record of it either. Im thinking its a documentary but this is something that should be examined.
When we see things like this. how is the best way to respond? should we post them here or to paul or someone on the side.
Most people here are nice people, but i dont want to cause any avalanche of hits

I didn't notice if there was a counter on there. If it is a problem maybe one of us could post the visible details re producer, editor, which I admit I didn't note down.

Battle of the Atlantic could be from an Anthology series.

I hope this doesnt come out the wrong way and I think its great that we're looking for things yet Im wondering if a different system would work better.
Posting auctions, etc on a public site like this could cause people who have no interest in material being returned to the bbc to bid on them and bring the prices higher. Someone has recently bid on it. Hopefully its one of our team, but one never knows.
I think a better system would be to have someone from Paul's team be liason. If he's too busy to handle it himself then have someone designated. If someone writes this person first, and learn if there is interest. If there isnt, then post it here in a timely matter so others can follow up on it.
We have a great team of lookers, and I think its a resource that can be very useful if organized properly.
While I dont think loosing this particular show would be a big negative (only one half appears to have the sound and it appears to be a documentry) in case something more valuable should occur in auction format, its better to keep it a little more hush.

George D:
You are exactly right, in that more than often when auctions are alerted on a public forum, can lead to adverse affects. Even if meant with the best of interests may cause adverse bidding against those trying to preserve these items. Asking Paul or even better Kaleidoscope in regards to any items of interest have learned-seen to be the best course of action in matters such as these.
Cheers, Lance.

Okay Lance,
Sorry about bringing it up on here. I just saw it an when I couldn't find anything about it I thought I'd just ask but now I know for the future. Sorry if this was the wrong thing to do.

George, You're right of course, and I've been as guilty as anyone in this respect. In fact more so. All due to the excitement of the hunt. Does the same apply with 'buy it now' sales, where films could be gone any moment? Obviously,if it's bloody cheap and sounds even remotely interesting,I'd go for it,but what about otherwise?

I dont think anyone is guilty. I just think we really dont have a system in place to handle this.
We need to set someone or some team up that will handle these things quickly without distracting from the important work paul has going. Almost like a prescreener who will say, "yes this has potential" or "no it doesnt". If they feel it doesnt, then post it in the forum in case others have interest.
If you see a buy it now thats affordable and you want to go for it, i see no reasons why not to as long as it gets preserved.

By the way George the current bid on the item was placed before I posted it here. I am trying to find out what on earth the program is and am currently searching the web for details. If anyone has an eBay account can they contact him and ask what it's from or if he has any more info on it?
(If I'm barking up the wrong tree or am doing the wrong thing for the matter please say as i am new to all this kind of thing)

its not a problem simeon. I dont think anyone knows what it is also.
would be cool if someone had radio times access from that date and look it up.
My gut is its a documentary.
Unless the seller has watched the show, i dont know if he would have any more information about it. I tried looking up the director and editor on google and couldnt find any info that way either.
