I really think we need a system in place to handle a new episode showing up so we're all not bidding against each other on ebay and combining efforts.

Sadly many people will not be magnamous if they found one.

Does the collector get the film back once he sends it to the Beeb and they scan it?

My understanding is yes. When "The Lion" turned up they just borrowed Bruce's print.

If I found an episode I'd ask for a full size dalek. Evil stylee. I've ALWAYS wanted one!

To be honest, I wouldn't demand anything. I would just be happy to help.
However, if they had a thisplanetearth replica of the blue/silver/gold dalek from the 1st Cushing movie banging about, I could take it off their hands... :)

If you find an episode on eBay, the simplest thing to do is to NOT post a link to it on this forum!

I'd like to think if someone knew they had something unique, that they would make it available for everybody else to enjoy. But there are probably (speculation) collectors out there who do knowingly "hoard" things. The collectors who have returned things (as far as I am aware) had no prior knowledge of the rarity of their prints, and have generally been more than happy to share them with everybody else... What's a library for after all??

I'm pretty sure a "hoarder" as it were, is someone who can't (as opposed to won't) let go of material items due to some sort of emotional or sentimental reason... At least that's the gist I get from that TV show about the subject.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Faceless Ones: 3 gotten from a private collector who at first was reluctant to hand it over to the BBC? As I recall he treated the film pretty poorly when he owned it too, much of it is damaged.

Actually, despite the fact that if I found something I wouldn't want/need anything in return, it would be nice to be permitted to visit the BBC Archives and have a look about through the films.

Im wondering if the "whole scene going?" situation counts as the reason for the interest was the dr who footage (although movie)

I hate to appear nit-picking, but that sentence makes no sense, whatsoever.

It does if you put a comma after "counts" .

Although the Doctor Who related footage is rather interesting I don't believe it is 'the reason for the interest' necessarily.

Tim Disney stated, “Dr Who was not the primary draw for us in recovering this programme, but the content of the programme as a whole — the exciting period of popular culture it reflects and it’s place in the history of British television."

You'd need big houses with wide doors. Daleks demand a lot of space!
