 Wait it out.
« Thread Started on May 7, 2012, 11:28pm »

Hello all i just thought that since the whole stream if leads has dried up somewhat i thought i could raise moral a little with this video, which shows why we must always keep looking out for any of the missing stories and never give up looking for theses stories-from what is here it shows that even though the episode finds has gone down there is always a steady flow every so often bringing new leads and speculation.

Hey Will.. Thanks for thinking of us.

Sadly, many dont appreciate the encouragement type posts so its probably best to keep them at a minimum.

Because you were kind enough to put it together, I watched it and appreciated the effort. While it shows all the wonderful things that we've found in the past and how much we are to be thankful for, sadly the video doesnt increase moral of recoveries for me.

Since 1999 our track record isnt encouraging. Our recovery to loss ratio is around 3 episodes and a few clips found compared to around 20 episodes being destroyed.. after we had an over 20 year head start to locate them. I know people worked hard but it just didnt happen. Im truly hoping we can turn that around but im not optimistic.

Fortunately, we can be thankful for all that has been found. We got recons, we got clips, we got audios, we got some animation and Im hoping a few more show up :) But I leave those to others more resilant because the current odds sadden me.

I too Thank Will for his effort and the good-hearted nature with which his post was intended...

But it really hasn't done a great deal to increase my optimism either.

You know thinking back to that DWM article in late 81, saying 136 missing let's find em'all!!... I mean did they really believe we would, I think sadly the majority of them were gone forever even then... :(

Hopefully there are still a handful of missing episodes that will turn up, but the chances of all 106 is probably nil.

I think the initial problem really was "waiting it out". Ian definately did a great start, however if more diligently searching was done earlier on, perhaps we would have had more today.

Seeing as the last 2 found episodes were kept hush hush for 5 and 3 months respectively, shouldn't us mere mortals just check back here once a year during the week of the Missing Believed Wiped event?

If I were you, I would just book tickets and take the risk...

MBW is a great event for anyone with an interest in early TV output. Each year the team put together an entertaining mix of drama, comedy, documentary, kids' TV shows and music from the most interesting recoveries.

MBW is usually a Nov/Dec event with tickets released a few weeks beforehand. BFI members get priority booking, so it's worth joining up and showing them some support. As well as Missing Believed Wiped the BFI/NFT put on a varied programme of events throughout the year including various TV preview screenings and restrospectives, Q and A sessions with industry professionals, as well as restoring and showing many rare and classic films, lots of world cinema, independent UK drama and big events such as the annual LGBT film festival.

BFI membership includes a monthly printed catalogue/newsletter showing forthcoming events and it also grants you access to a huge selection of shows/films in their computer mediateque area.

I'll have a look into it. It seems like a good investment to become a member.

Love the video Will.It shows that although only 30 or so actual lost episodes have been recovered in the past 30 years,a whole wealth of clips and related artefacts have been found! Not bad for a TV programme which was begun to be junked almost as soon as it was made.I love that whole period of Doctor Who,even though the majority of it was shown before I was born.Compliations like yours are like the current Olympic flame.Let's keep the enthusiasm burning ( I know that was a rubbish analogy but you know what I mean...!)

Lol I can see Pauls comment getting the gossip mill churning.

Hopefully its a hint that there are more episodes expected, however I think if someone is a fan of british tv, mbw is an event that should be supported regardless. Wish i lived close enough to go.

I go most if not every year, there's always something worth seeing, actually the majority of years most of it.

Ha, ha. I was just thinking the exact same thing George!!
I remember a similar comment was made in the old (I'll fated) "Africa Progress" thread a few weeks before the last mbw!! All extremities are crossed and turning blue lol ;)
