 Thailand 2008
« Thread Started on Apr 28, 2012, 10:14am »

Hi,

I suppose I should say the obligatory, I'm new here!

I'm just starting to really look into the lost episodes and keep finding online a story from 2008 about missing episodes being traced to Thailand, but then not being able to find any resolution to that story.

Was just hoping that someone could tell me;

a) Was this ever resolved? Hoax? No response to the search?

b) What were the other two episodes, it only mentions Marco Polo.

Cheers guys!

Matty

It was a total non-story.

Thailand was one of many countries that bought Doctor Who back in the 1960s and for some strange reason, this individual seemed to think that because that a handful of episodes were shown back in 1967, they must still be there.

In reality, Thailand was no more likely to have held onto their episodes than any other country.

They had all 53 episodes from the first story through to The Rescue, so the missing ones are just the seven episodes of Marco Polo and the two from The Reign of Terror.

I see. That's a shame.

I listened to Marco Polo a couple of days ago and I have to say I absolutely love it. I assumed that the 2008 story had some kind of resolution which was bound to disappoint me but it's always worth asking.

Cheers!

Parts of the story were true, the guy apparently went to Thailand and gave an interview to the Bangkok Post, of occasional factual content. Beyond that every one went a bit stupid, particularly when it reached the point that the media was reporting that the "BBC has recovered" "the nine episodes of Marco Polo" on "90mm film".
So the usual.

I'd be excited if we could find just 90mm OF film of Marco Polo!

Half a second from the episode which shan't be named but which doesn't have telesnaps would be great!

The telesnap recovery of 2004 was particularly frustrating for me, as I write for a club newsletter which shares its name with the episode which shan't be named.

Sorry guys, on reflection it wasn't "90mm film". That's ridiculous.
It was 160 mm film.
