Possibility for more NZ censor material

Hello All,

While surfing the net I found a interresting note on the Doctor Who New Zealand site. It reads:

The Enemy of the World, The Web of Fear and The Wheel in Space were approved by the censor for viewing, although some cuts were made to all three stories.

As you know the NZ censor clips to Web of Fear and Wheel In Space were recovered from a private collector. Then where did the censor clips from Enemy Of The World go ? Maybe those clips still exist somewhere in New Zealand. What do you think ?

Lance, is the lead you had for a missing episode still a possibility or did it turn out to be another hoax? I have'nt seen anything about it in a while and read a thread by Ian where he said at the moment he did'nt have any prospects of a recovery. Just curious if it's still being looked into.

I am still following a few leads at the moment. The work is progresing, that is all I can say on the subject at this time. If I recover anything, I am sure you will all know about it in due course. I am working on a few leads independently of Ian Levine's leads. Some look very promising, but might take some time to see any results. So, please be patient, I am working on it.

In the mean time, what do you think of this idea I had posted above ?

it seems like a good lead to follow considering some of the censor material recovered before.

If - and it's a very big "if" - any more material does reside within New Zealand it is highly unlikely that it will be found at any TVNZ, ex-NZBC holding premises. All such premises (and paperwork) have been thoroughly scoured for ANY material by various individuals since 1990. There is nothing left to find. TVNZ have, themselves, thoroughly searched all "archives" when looking for their own material...

Then possibly the area to focus would be on private collections and collectors.

No One has any further ideas on this ? I was hoping someone else might have some input on the existence or non-existence of such material is possible. In regard to the censor footage located for Web of Fear and Wheel In Space that this too might exist, somewhere in private hands. Any more thoughts, anyone ?

Lance,

We've been down this road before, many many times already, so why do you keep bringing it up?!?! New Zealand fans are on to it; we've been doing this for a while, since you were in nappies / diapers.

You have to appreciate that many private collectors DON'T want to publicise what they have since much of it was acquired through, how shall we say it, unofficial channels.

YES - it's possible more footage exists in private hands
YES - we've looked
NO - we've not found any more!
YES - we are still looking

And if we find anything, this forum will be informed.

So, stay tuned...

Further to my previous posting, in case anyone was curious, NZ censorship documentation records that the following episodes were ear-marked for cuts:

The Romans (4)
Space Museum (3,4)
Time Meddler (2,3,4) ##
Galaxy Four (1,2,3,4)
Myth Makers (1,2,3,4)
The Massacre (3,4)
The Ark (1,3,4) **
Celestial Toymaker (2,4)
War Machines (2,3,4) ##
Smugglers (1,2,3,4)
Tenth Planet (4)
Power of the Daleks (5,6)
Evil of the Daleks (4,5)
Enemy of the World (4,5)
Web of Fear (1,2,3,4,5,6) **
Wheel in Space (3,5,6) **
The Silurians (2,3)

** Ark - all footage found in 2002
** Web - only some footage from 1,3,4,5 found in 2002
** Wheel - all footage from 5,6 found in 2002

## the recovered “Nigerian” prints of Time Meddler and War Machines were the ones cut in NZ. If the cut footage was ever found, then these episodes could finally be completed!

Censorship documentation covering Seasons 1 through 10 and half of 11, as well as all of 18 has been found. Documentation for the rest of Season 11, Seasons 12 through 17, and 19 onwards has not been found… yet!

I did not mean to imply previously stated ideas. I was merely trying to point out another possibility, as I was unaware of the full scope of censor cuts made to NZ who prints. Accept my apologies there. Could you say that there are any good NZ leads you are following ? If I may ask.

Sure; recently I've spoken with a senior officer who once looked after the film store used by the NZBC in the 1960s and 1970s. He had a lot to say, and filled in many gaps in my knowledge of how NZBC did things in those days. He couldn't shed any more light on what happened to all the old films and clips, but it was certainly a worth while conversation over all!
