It's 31/1/74 - possibly originating from the PVL but in circulation for many years amongst the TOTP faithful (and possibly suffering from multi-generation VHS made years ago)

How do you gents know which TOTP footage is missing? Lostshows.com doesn't tell you who is performing in each show. Is it in the Kaleidoscope books? Or are you so familiar with the thousands of existing episodes that you instantly know when it's something missing? Very impressive!

Hi Andrew, can I point you to the most brilliant reference website on TOTP footage, Popscene, here:

General rule of thumb - if it's before 1976 and it isn't one of the clips that's been repeated on TOTP2, then it's *probably* missing!

Some one has uploaded some continuity on you tube from the BBC from 1974. At 1.23 It looks like Paul Burnett TOTP's is about to start, then it cuts off to the news. Is all of Paul Burnett's TOTP's from 1974 missing?

Great to see an alternative Mud - Tiger Feet performance with DLT on violin!

If this is PVL, which it looks like it is, it's a shame that they haven't allowed a professional the opportunity to restore and digitally master them properly. There's a lot that could be done with these to make them much more broadcast and commercially friendly. I noticed on that original sampler that was released that there are schoolboy errors in some of the dubs, such as sound clipping and placing VTRs too close to each other during dubbing, creating that horrible ghosting pattern from left to right across the screen. An example being during the black and white David Cassidy clip and others such as The Who.

It's still great to see some clips online and whoever recorded these in the first place is a hero in my book, but a lot could have been done with these if the original tapes still exist.

There's also a way for PVL to make some very good cash legitimately and for these clips to be seen again on television. If they're reading this, they know where to find me. I'll show them how to achieve it. That way, everyone could be a winner.
