What would you like to see in June?
« Thread Started on Feb 15, 2012, 8:44am »

Hi people

Lots and lots of threads on here and I'm losing track of what you guys think are your holy grails of BBC material you want to see again?

From all the surviving clips, shows, what would you like Kal to dig out the BBC archives to show at this June's event?

I always worry we have something we think is great but then we find its on youtube lol.

We have the TOTP from 1973 found at the BFI last year, we also have Laurie Holloway playing live for jazz fans, what else would you like us to show?

Band, song, show and tx date would make our life easier!

Thanks

Chris

CP, that's a great start!!!!

To be honest, not everyone will worry about whether something's on youtube. Obviously Kal show it in better quality, so....

I would say Noises From the Leg, which apparently exists from the Bonzo Dog Band's Colour Me Pop appearance 21/12/1968, which I didn't know existed until now. It's not on youtube, and unbootlegged.

Noises For The Leg ISN'T from the Colour Me Pop appearance. (but it is in colour - which has possiby caused the confusion). Its actually a colour insert from another programme from late 1969- Laurence Piper said on this forum in 2009: "There's also the (Bob Pratt saved) colour clip from a BBC end of year '69 show where they do "Noises For The Leg". " - must be Dec 69 then.

That said, very good choice Ray.

Hi Chris

For me it has to be the 11/10/1973 edition of TOTP hosted by Kenny Everett.

As this is a "studio version" edition of TOTP I cannot ever see it being repeated by the BBC so it would be great to see this in June.

I would also like to see the full clip of The Shadows "Don't Make my Baby Blue".

Fingers crossed.

I don't know myself - perhaps Laurence will be able to tell us more. If not, it could prob be worked out from contemporary listings.

CP, the above thread has a huge amount of clips that the Forum members would like to see, maybe worth looking at.

No, not from Colour Me Pop, as mentioned above. It's from a new years eve lookback type of programme from Dec 1969 (whose name escapes me for the moment!) a year later than the CMP appearance. A Bob Pratt item though. I'd go along with that as a good one to show.

As far as the June Kal event is concerned, i'd very much like to see:

MANFRED MANN - two numbers (Once More With Felix, 9/12/67) on colour VT
JOHN KONGOS - Tokoloshe Man (TOTP, 18/11/71 - maybe the whole edition would be good)
ROXY MUSIC - Street Life (TOTP, 22/11/73)

I believe there is also a John Kongos appearance in colour from an ITV 1971 (LWT?) music / LE programme, which i'd like to see.

Christopher, please try and make sure the Top Of The Pops from 1973 found at the BFI is shown. I'd dearly love to see this and it will guarantee my ticket for a start!

Top Of The Pops (22nd Nov 1973-BFI)

I'd also second the two 1971 editions mentioned by Ray above, along with the restored colour version of the 1972 episode that features Hot Chocolate.

A half hour collection of music performances from Clunk Click or early Jim'll Fix It would be a nice little tribute to Jimmy Savile too don't you think?

Hi Chris

I gather you have already shown it at a previous event but having wondered how Slade got away with performing Gypsy Road Hog on Top of the Pops (what with repeated references to "angel dust" and "silver spoons" etc.) I'd love to see them doing it on Blue Peter!

By the way can you confirm whether the esteemed Mr Henshall will be in attendance at the June event as that would be a real dealmaker for me - have you had the chance yet to go through his full collection?

regards

Richard

Will you have the chance by then to have sorted any of John Henshall's tapes? I dare say you could spring some delightful surprises from those!

I don't mind what gets shown as long as we get to see the 22/11/73 edition featuring Roxy Music and Mud.
