Away from the glitter, how come Silver Convention were on in successive weeks despite the song getting nowhere in the charts? The girl on the right has to be one of the most ungainly dancers I've ever seen ! I hardly watched TOTP in 1977, and I can see why.......

Not quite successive, there was a fortnight between those two performances. Besides, they got to No. 25 in the charts which isn't exactly nowhere, and they were a new entry in the Top 30 that week and thus qualified for an appearance.
The girl on the right was Penny McLean (which of course is not her real name!) who got her three minutes of fame in continental Europe with her solo hit "Lady Bump".

I see that BBC4 are missing out the apparently 'Wiped' edition from 10/02/1977.

There has been speculation for a few years that this exists in the BBC archive in Broadcast Quality.

Does anyone know either way for sure?

Wasn't one of the missing 77 episodes returned recently by David Hamilton,as well as the 76 ones he returned? I thought it was this one, perhaps it was 3/3 or 31/3.

I believe Julie Covington did turn up at TOTP's after the song
finished playing (on it's one week at No 1). Host DLT made up
some excuse that their studio wasn't big for a large scale
orchestra to accompany Ms Covington which she seemed
to agree with. This episode, as you will all be aware, is the
1st of 1977's four missing shows, so I can only give this info
as a memory from back then.

I see that BBC4 are currently showing wiped, recovered & restored Sonny Rollins from 74 - if they can do this I'm sure they can do the same for recovered TOTP.
It is being presented as an 'Arena' special, "introduced" by Jamie Cullum as a lost & found treasure, a similar technique could be used to present domestically recovered TOTP (in my opinion)

Yes I had this problem as well, and many others too, as you can read in other forums. Maybe it had to do with the move from Astra 2D to Astra 1N on Friday:

It seemed to me as if the problem had been solved by yesterday evening though. So I'm looking forward to the second repeat and hope this will be ok.

Obviously no such problems using Freeview and even though I'm only 7 miles from the Sandy Heath transmitter the digital picture will never be as good as the analogue. :'(

Hi Andreas,

I just checked my recording from Thursday night and it had the same problems. I will also re-record and hope it will be undisturbed! ;)

Tonight's re-broadcast of the show (17/02/1977) was faultless and O.K. ! :)
