Hi ive been following all the great work going on here.outstanding stuff Ray.

Yes, well done Ray for pursuing this (and other) leads with the determination you do! Even if it turns out to be nothing, you've put in a lot of effort.

Thanks Ray. Still in shock that this has finally turned up. Whats the procedure with Kal, and would it eventually be offerred back to the Beeb, Bowie or what?

We don't actually know what this is yet though. Is it an 8mm film off-screen of the TOTP appearance or some backstage footage from the session (or a bit of both)? Let's wait and see what turns up. It'll still be interesting if it's backstage stuff, of course, but will be obviously better if it's the actual appearance.

David Bowie "The Jean Genie":- is ""a 2-inch "G" spool recording.... (John Henshall)'s fisheye lens was used and (John is) even seen in shot briefly"". ;D

:o :o Great news Ray!, can you confirm this was the actual film/video stock used for the Pop Quiz show? Even so, excellent news :)

I can't confirm that, but....it DOES appear to be the same as the broadcast clip from what info I have. Whether it's EXACTLY the same copy as Pop Quiz is....what's the word....subjecture? But, it's meant to be the broadcast clip!

Excellent piece of reserach on your part, Ray! Really good news that it seems - by what you say so far - to be a proper missing TOTP performance (and an important one at that!). Keep us up to date on it. I just hope the BBC are interested enough to take a copy of Tim's 2" reel back for the archives...

Whats particulary pleasing is how legit all this feels. Its not a rumour, its not a possible find on mystery eBay tapes or some such, but one of the actual camera men, with a 2" tape, and its turned up quite accidently, via him innocently reminiscing on a BBC documentary :)
