Unbelievable. Where's that wonderful Julie Felix Show colour footage on the DVD?
WHY was that NOT included?!?! The one big chance to feature the most precious piece of video of The Kinks the BBC have... and they leave it on the shelf.
Words truly fail me since you get the 1977 Christmas concert twice over - in audio form and visually on the DVD.

Very disappointed with that tracklist.
It could have/Should have been much better than that. The first half of the DVD is more or less exactly 'Kinks at the BBC' which was shown last year.
and where was 'Death of a Clown' (TOTP)???

It's rubbish! The Julie Felix clips are the most desired and interesting items that could potentially be included. Hardly anything from the BBC '60s period (their best phase without any doubt) is present and the DVD races to the '70s after only a handful of tracks. There is so little existing from earlier on, it makes no sense whatsoever to miss them out (or Wonderboy / Autumn Almanac from TOTP and several more as well, come to that). I was hoping this release would gather up all the stray Kinks video material in one place once and for all but I suppose that at least it means i'll be saving a bit of money anyway!

I'm physically sick reading that DVD track-list!! It's not that some of us don't love what's there it's just that ALL of us love what's NOT f***ing there!! This is such a let down and it just gives power back to the bootleggers in my opinion. The one aspect of the modern day collectors world that they could have resigned to the trash bin in one fell swoop. But NO.....so it's foreign releases and bootlegs for the 2012 Kinks fan.

If Universal bothered to do their research first then they wouldn't be getting these criticisms here from disappointed Kinks fans. I just cannot believe they've not bothered with the Julie Felix Show footage - the only VT colour footage with Pete Quaife, as well as being the last existing footage of him in the band (it was his penultimate TV appearance) performing 2 songs from their most critically acclaimed album from the era it was released... and the idiots don't bother to feature it.
A year or so ago, I posted the YouTube clip of that performance on a forum mainly inhabited by Americans. The reaction it got was electric because none of them knew the footage existed and they were stunned to see the Village Green era Kinks performing those 2 songs in beautiful colour. It's wonderful footage that should had been a major highlight of this set. I'm too not impressed by other omissions highlighted here, hence the box falls short of expectations and will be another I will not be purchasing... last years "Kinks In Mono" boxset was a joke since we've had the mono mixes for decades... it's stereo mixes that are more desired, but then again, I can't find many nice things to say about Universal anyway...

I think it might be a good idea to make our displeasure known to them anyway, pointing out existing material which they should have included. What a shoddy DVD!
Just to recap on what's been short-listed for inclusion on any potential Kinks DVD release here previously:
Dead End Street (Promo intended for TOTP, 1966)
Autumn Almanac (TOTP, 1967)
Wonderboy (TOTP, 1968)
Last Of The Steam Powered Trains (Once More With Felix, 1969)
Picture Book (Once More With Felix, 1969)
Days (Pop Goes The Sixties, 1969)
No excuse for any of this stuff to be missing from the DVD.

Well, yes! But I was limiting that list to things which exist in broadcast quality. The Sunny Afternoon clip only seems to have surfaced as a very poor VHS quality recording so far. I wouldn't expect a DVD company to go missing episode hunting for locating the source print for the clip (even though it may be out there) but it is perfectly reasonable to expect all the other stuff listed to be included though!

Even 'Lola' (which has already been issued on a BR DVD) and 'Apeman' are not even the TOTP performances, they are promo films that were shown on TOTP. Why would a collection like this miss so much vital BBC footage?
I won't be buying this one...

"Acute Schizophrenia Paranoia Blues" from OGWT in 1972 and Days from "The Late Show" in 1993 should also have been included on the dvd.

It does seem odd that the stuff Laurence listed has not made the cut- the compilers would definitely have been aware of them.
The worst thing about their exclsion is that poor Pete Quaife's screentime is reduced to just 2 clips, both from The Beat Room- a neophyte watching the DVD would assume he was a Pete Best figure in the band's history rather than a quarter of their best-remembered line-up. (the one pictured on the set's cover!)
Strangest exclusion is the Pop Goes the 60s version of Days which was even included the Kinks at the BBC show last year.
One possibilty I can think of is that Ray Davies himself vetoed the missing clips! There doesn't seem to any other explanation, as the set has been carefully and exhaustively researched and put together by Kinks experts. (Smith. Sanoval, Doggett- these people know their onions and then some Kinkswise.)
EDIT- Ah, the other possibilty occured to me that these clips were dropped for space reason, as originally 2 DVD were set to be included. I could see how the Autumn Almanac and Wonderboy clips would be the first to be cut for these reasons, as aren't they lower quality trasfers from foreign archives? The same reasonign can't be applied to the Felix clip though, sure most people would be happy to see some other stuff cut to make way for these. (all a matter of preference, though I suspect most would rather have VGPS material on there in favour of of most other eras.)

No, they're perfectly good quality t/rs, same as with anything else sold to / recovered from overseas TV (and certainly much better quality than the very grainy Whole Scene Going clip, which is being included)!
If the set is being trimmed for space reasons, I can't see any logic in cutting early performances in preference to much more recent ones! Clips of the heyday years should have priority (and who wants decades-later appearances of an aging band playing, for example, Till The End Of The Day on Jools Holland in preference?!?). Even the 1977 Rainbow concert is well after the hits.
So if those clips of Lola and Apeman are not even from TOTP, where does the "at the BBC" angle even come into it? If promos are acceptable then why not just buy in Beat Club etc. footage too where there is no other original footage - such as with Waterloo Sunset - rather than use clips of same from a '70s In Concert (which show a changed band, performing the hits differently with Ray - backed by The Kinks cabaret showband - doing an almost parodic impersonation of his former self).
In fact, why bother making the remit for the DVD (nominally) BBC only? There is far more existing of The Kinks in their prime in overseas archives anyway and the set could have been made far more interesting if the scope had been extended in that direction! The more you look at it, it becomes clear they haven't thought this DVD through properly at all!
