Does anyone know which episodes of The Golden Shot still exist in the archives. I have one off-air recording from 1974 and wondered if it was one of the missing ones.

Kal may have a list. 29 existed a few years back. Some were found additionally in the Bob Monkhouse archive. Sorry that's not much help.

Bryan,my family used to watch it every week but I'm hazy on details.Did they have a guest-star each week? If so,who's in yours?Also-and this might help in placing it-what theme does it have?

It's Charlie Williams' final edition and features Lena Zavaroni and Michael Ward, the theme of the show being Youth.

Rough guide here but not so hot on the later years
http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0195463/epcast
It was live (hence few recordings exist) up and till the final series, where I believe the phone in to Bernie the Bolt to steer the crossbow was dropped? not sure though
The most wanted episodes appears to be the Captain Scarlet and the Randall and Hopkirk appearances

I've seen Bob Monkhouse's speech at the end of his first stint on the show.I wonder if they even had any capability for pausing the broadcast due to swearing, etc? Not that Bob swore of course.
I'm hoping it's a discovery. It seems with some shows that they tried to keep copies of "x's final appearance" or "the last ever show".Certainly Bob made a point of keeping one of his last appearances on The Golden Shot.It must be a Candlestick Park thing.

Yes it looks like the crew made a point of recording Bob's last first stint on the show as a present to him,and maybe the last one in 75 as well? but no way would he have broke down and sworn on the show,it was a different era, his generation were 'professionals' - the show must go on etc- apart from the fact he would have been sent out into the wildeness for probably 20 years-

Quite true; but I'm not sure I'd have been sanguine if I'd been the one who'd dropped him.In fact, his statement to camera is quite amazing, hinting,I think at his unwillingness to go?

It was only the first portion that was live, necessarily so to allow the contestants to phone in (wouldn't work now, with digital TV : "up a bit" followed by 5 seconds before you saw the response) ; the rest of the programme was pre-recorded (I know this because I remember watching it one time when there was a VT cock-up and they re-showed the previous couple of minutes by accident).

Interesting.I was going to ask that very question.Couldn't see why it would all have to be live.

From memory those some the arrows had an habit going way off target. Even before the days of Health and Safety ITV must have petrified someone could be killed.

Yes interesting that, they would certainly have been worried about Charlie Williams having too many goofs on a live show as this was first game show. because on the whole live shows are much cheaper to make.
I think the reason Bob got first kicked off was something to do with Wilkinson's razor blades- either he mentioned them too much or they were left about on the show or something?

If you read up the extensive 2006 thread on The Golden Shot, one or two people agree with you about Charlie Williams. It seems the show was at times not live;contestants were in booths across the studio.

If you read the current 'Celebrity Squares',thread you'll find another date for this episode.I'm puzzled, though it seems two consecutive CW episodes survive? The guy on Youtube is convinced that his clip from 24th is CW's last.

I thought I'd check what the BFI list:
4/2/1968. Partial and mute. 18/11/1973. 24/3/1974. 31/3/1974.
They give the cast for 31/3 as including Charlie Williams and Lena Zavaroni.
