 Shirley Bassey 1955.
« Thread Started on Jun 16, 2012, 10:18pm »

The BFI have got a clip, under the heading 'Stormy Weather' of Shirley Bassey singing the song on an unidentified variety show from 1955,accompanied by Billy Ternet and his Orchestra.
Billy Ternet was one of the stars of the opening night of ITV,22nd September 1955,in a show called 'Star Cabaret'.Is it possible that the clip's from that performance,or has anyone any other suggestions?

Missing or incomplete episodes for programme STAR CABARET.

22.09.55 with Billy Ternent and his Orchestra, Marty Stevens, George Formby (existence unknown)

There doesn't seem to be any mention of Shirley Bassey.

It's possible it could be from HYLTON HALF-HOUR she was on the show in 1955 but according to lostshows , Billy Ternet and his Orchestra was not on the same show as Shirley Bassey even though he also appeared on this show in 1955.

On Wikipedia,it's stated that Bassey "starred in Al Read's "Such is Life' in the West End...and was spotted by a Phillips A+R man on TV." This was in 1955,but no show named.

Fairly certain it's this one:-

30.12.55 with Shirley Bassey, Eddie Gray, Arthur English, Al Read (missing)

Reason being that Orchestras were not always credited. Bassey would have been. It's a Hylton show.

Well,that would make it 1955-just!
I can't get anything but error messages when I try to get more details on the BFI site,so don't know why they reckon this is '55.'Stormy Weather was the 'B' side of her first disc,in Feb.'56 so the date seems reasonable.
