BBC Clips of (otherwise) missing shows
« Thread Started on Jun 6, 2012, 12:42pm »

Let's not get too excited.

These are clips. Not full shows. CLIPS.

All exist at the BBC, and some might be known about.
However, lostshows.com do NOT list any part of them existing.

This is the 1960's:-

Brothers in Law (Counsel for the Prosecution) 10/07/62 (starring a young Richard Briers) - 38 secs
Hugh and I (Night Life) 03/01/66 2.22
Barney is My Darling (Weddings, Funerals and Christenings) 07/01/66 - 2.54 (none of this show is known to exist)
Show of the Week - Vikki Carr 22/03/66 - 2.40 - complete song!
Thirty Minute Theatre - Teeth 08/02/1967 - 1.52 (starring a young Yootha Joyce)
Juke Box Jury 22/11/1967 Long John Baldry episode. NOTE NOT 100% CONFIRMED. Evidence points to it being this episode.
This is Petula Clark 28/11/1967 2 song excerpts (Don't Sleep in the Subway and At the Crossroads) total duration 1.55

Now, they are clips, not full programmes, and probably not that important copmpared to many of the other fantastic discoveries this year....but....a find is a find is a find.

If I get owt from the 70's, it will be posted here.

;D ;D ;D ;D

And two more:-

brief excerpt (no timing) from Suddenly It's 1968 (31/12/1967)

and........... from MARTY 03/06/1968. Appears to be a sketch just featuring Tim Brooke-Taylor.

Could you tell me more about that? Is it a complete sketch, possibly identifiable on http://laughterlog.com/2009/03/21/marty-feldman ?

Monty Python has been available on DVD for some time, but some things are missing!

""Programme ends with a brief excerpt from a sketch from 'Marty' featuring Tim
BROOKE-TAYLOR and an audience of nuns (spoof of Talkback) (TX 03.06.68)""

I'm guessing it's the Backchat skecth - as it's a micturation-extraction of the BBC show Talkback.

Yes, there are quite a lot of clips from missing shows featured in Talkback, Ray. I saw some of these editions a while back and was stunned to find (e.g.) two lengthy clips from the original 1967 version of Zigger Zagger (which I saw at the time but is now missing)!

I remember reading about this - the stage play is how Karl Howman (Brush Strokes and Vanish adverts(!)) got his break....

he was seen in this and auditioned for the film 'That'll Be The Day' with Keith Moon recommending he audition with his back to camera and then glance over his shoulder moodily at the camera. He did, and replicated this in the film....

Lost Shows does not include clips, we only include partial sequences above 15mins. We list clips in the footnotes of books and I think all of these clips are in our electronic Guides, but I will double check.

This entry on the BFI site might yield clips from missing shows - If the BBC hold a copy then Infax/it's successor needs checking

In Vision[18/10/74]
Date:1974 Source: BFI
Description:A look at the changing portrayal of the police in television drama. Refers specifically to British television, but also mentions American programmes. .... Original Format: Television Sound: Unknown Colour: Duration: 30 min

the whole "In Vision" series appears to be about television production so might yield some interesting material but only this episode is listed on the BFI site as being a genre retrospective that might yield clips from missing shows

I didn't know Zigger Zagger was so early.I seem to remember a celebration of it on TV some years later,1970-75?
I don't know if they showed any of the original production; it just seemed to consist of people shouting "Zigger Zagger,Zigger Zagger"!
