Losthows records 'The Charlie Drake Show: The World of Charlie Drake' as missing. The BFI lists this,I hope,as 'The World of Charlie Drake',unless this was a one-off version,or an alternate name for the series?
Also,'Boxing Night at the (i.e.Pebble) Mill' 1979,and 'BBC Show of the Week: Tony Bennett Sings' 8/7/71,too.
Not listed at Lost but sounds interesting: Abc of ABC: A Souvenier With Music.' A look back over 10 years.1966.57mins.

That's very interesting, Ray. Nothing would please me more than to return to colour some more of those Steptoe & Son episodes! My guess is that they are in fact the b/w versions BUT it's worth checking out and until the copies are physically accessed to see, colour versions should not be ruled out! I hope someone can look into this...

This really would be icing on the cake as i believe the copies that exist are quite low grade home video recordings. Can some one check this out? I know there is a lot to work through at the BFI but i think if these were found there then there is a real chance that they would be broadcast on the BBC in the near future

But didn't those early 70's Steptoe domestic recordings that were repeated acknowledge the help of the BFI? I seem to remember some credit along those lines on certain episodes which makes me think that if the BFI were involved back then making them transmittable, then why didn't they whip out their own better quality copies if they had them? Would be nice if better quality copies did exist - and in colour - but I suspect we're in for disappointment here.

We possibly are but - as we're now seeing with the BFI databases situation - they may well have material which they were themselves looking for via MBW initiatives many years ago! Time will tell, I suppose...

It's just a defaul system on their computer - ITV and BBC have the same. Unless you change the status, it defaults to colour and the whole running time. Steve Bryant loves both those comedy shows and if they had colour or complete eps they would have been talked about years ago. As it is, they sadly don't.
NFA are overwhelmed by my requests but they are working through them.

I hope they're correcting database errors as they're found.

Search For A Star?!? The '60s Rediffusion talent show / beauty contest or something else? I watched it at the time but didn't know any survived! List them if they're there, J - I'd be very interested to see that one again! |

Is this the series that featured Wendy Padbury of Crossroads and Dr. Who fame?

I am particularly delighted if this has been found. There is only one other surviving Judge Dee episode isn't there? While I know that it was not a great success I have always wondered why Granada did not keep all the episodes of this series. Were the costumes in particular not excellent?

I'm not sure actually. I can remember Keith Fordyce was the presenter but don't have any recollection of Wendy appearing (although that's not to say she didn't). I remember her well in Crossroads, Dr.Who and Freewheelers though!

NFA say:
This is... Tom Jones "NFA just want to confirm that ITV have always had this series, and we do indeed have copies, because we transferred them for Carlton TV under the HLF. ITV should therefore have everything that we have." - I still have a few queries about this though because ITV don't own it any more and indeed keep no material any longer. So I need to check Mr Jones has all the episodes.
NFA say: Jack Hylton Would you mind pointing out to Peter Stirling and Raybadrick that the Jack Hylton collection has been well publicised for many years. The book, "Jack Hylton Presents" by Pamela W Logan is still available and apart from the season of programmes and lecture in 1995, there have been many opportunities to see the collection at BFI Southbank since then, as well as viewing some in the mediatheque." I have still queried the specific enquiry though about VT surviving because that isn't in the book.
Thanks
Chris
