The Guide shows 4 of the 13 plays as existing: this one and From Chekhov With Love on 16mm telerecordings, and two titles held on 35mm colour film: The Human Voice starring Ingrid Bergman (which is available on r1) and Dare I Weep, Dare I Mourn.
I've had a look at the IMDb listings (I know, I know...) for the US transmissions, and they're all over the place, with two of them apparently competing against one another on different networks. Four of them attracted Emmy nominations (highlighted in list below), which makes their disappearance even more mysterious. All were in colour. The rights will be held by Time-Life, who bought the TA catalogue.

John,please accept my apology for calling you 'Jihn'.Given that I'm John too,all I can do is say I'm sorry,and blame my children,who will distract me at teatime when I'm busy on other things.
Pity that 'john' is a rude slang word in the U.S.,eh bj?
I think that what started out as an upgrade from b&w to color/colour is getting very interesting.
But not only does IMDB only show one result for 'Star Performance',which is unusual enough,but it keeps taking me to something called 'Four Star Theatre'.Could the two shows be confused in some way?
People seem to be having enough difficulty finding UK listings,but I'm wondering when these plays were last broadcast in the U.S.
Do we know length of each show?
I'll check on IMDB,but wanted to send this before I wiped it (again).

Hm.If you read the reviews on the U.S. Amazon site for 'The Human Voice',the DVD release is by The Broadway Theatre Archive,who've also released e.g. a 1973 TV version of 'The Glass Menagerie',with Katherine Hepburn.
Might it be that in some cases the BTA or others are suppressing the 1960s versions?

I think the best method for checking how to track these buggars down is to ensure that the version of the play has the same performers in it as the one that was tx'd on the UK dates did. A large amount of plays and dramas (not just Shakespeare) were remade on different networks with diferent casts (I thought I found a play in the US the other day, because it was missing and had Michael Hordern with it. Transpires it WASN'T the UK version at all!)

Ok, research has been heavy this a.m. Basically all of these are US-orientated; the actors often are, and although some were shot at Rediffusion in Wembley, some were not.
Two other missing ones seem to exist:- Noon Wine, which seems to a b/w version at the LOC and Museum of Broadcast Communications. Of Mice and Men - a 16mm version exists at UCLA (INCOMPLETE), but I believe Time Warner MAY have a copy.

For sixties colour fans...
There is another colour Rediffusion production surviving at the BFI on 35mm colour film - part 2 of Half Hour Story: George's Room.
It's interesting because it ends with well over a minute of the colour, animated Rediffusion colour production ident - in red, white and black.
This might be the only surviving colour Rediffusion TV ident, although a colour ARTV ident survivies on several early sixties documentaries.
All of these colour idents have been screened at Kaleidoscope events in recent years.
They also recently screened a TWW production with the ultra rare 'TWW Colour Production' ident (Sing Me a Fantasy), but sadly this was a b/w telerecording of the colour film.

For the record,'Human Voice' was a one-woman performance by Ingrid Bergman.It's out on DVD,and it's on Youtube.Running time 50 minutes.

Just one slight correction to that: The Human Voice exists on 525 line colour VT, rather than 35mm film. I know because it's out on DVD and I have it here! It was one of those shot by Rediffusion at Wembley. Dare I Weep...was a colour film production though.
Always interested to hear more about surviving Rediffusion material - especially in colour! Does anyone know how many Star Performances were made in all?

The Le Carre 'Dare I Weep...' seems an odd one out,seemingly based on a Saturday Evening Post short story from 1966.

I remember a Rediffusion single drama in colour was shown on TV Heaven.
It was about a German man going to East Berlin after the death of his father.

Hm.One of the IMDB reviews calls 'Dare I Weep' "A highpoint in the history of American (sic) televison." It mentions that this play,together with Sam Peckinpah's 'Noon Wine' were part of the series 'ABC Stage '67',the IMDB page for which has. an image of 'The Human Voice'
I have to echo his wish that these be released on DVD..
(ABC Stage '67' seems to have shown a variety of material,not all of it the plays we're interested in).

Someone on IMDB claims that copies of some of the ABC Stage 67 material were issued-on 16mm I'd guess-to schools and libraries.There's also a claim that b&w versions were broadcast on some smaller networks in the early 70s,perhaps to save on costs!
