Missing unfortunately Laurence. It appears that the masters of Old Country were not amongst the material recently moved from the SWFTA although, like OoT, the location films, sound effects and Jack's audio commentaries exist. Yes it's great news about the 34 original Out of Towns coming to light, although it's worth noting that they hadn't been with the SWFTA collection either.

The booklet that came with the Live Aid DVD made reference to some of the BBC tapes being damaged or missing. How accurate that is I don't know. It also says that the American master tapes are all but gone having been destroyed at Bob Geldof's request. It also says that MTV found some b-roll tapes that helped with the DVD but some footage is gone forever.

Where was the material moved to, Ian? Do the SWFTA not curate the collection any more?

Jack's stepson now has it in storage. There is an interesting video of the move which gives a good view of the collection at http://vimeo.com/40226507

Ok, just to purge some bile...........when I found 'Wild Boy', the Scottish Television film from 1980, I phoned STV to let them know. They asked me if I wanted to buy the show, because I couldn't, as they didn't have a copy.'No, I've just found a copy for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' 'Ok, cause we don't have a copy here you can buy'. 'I KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'
(Should anyone evening think of suggesting that this conversation would be due to some misunderstanding, I would like to point out both myself and the STV employee in question were both speaking Scots dialect'.)
I had a similar thing happen to me when I first contacted ITN Source, but they have been nothing but good ever since.
Anyway, back on topic. The answer with Fraggle Rock is unclear. As there is a distinct lack of concrete evidence the show has (UK-wise) been kept, it is presumed missing.
Take the High Road, I am looking for, just so as you know.
90's wipings seem to include the Adventures of Rupert Bear. I am aware the show was not an 80's one, but it seemed to exist completely until the 90s. Polygram Television appeared to have wiped the tapes in the 90's, notwithstanding the fact there have been several Rupert revivals since the 70's. I do have a possible lead, but I really need to get someone's DDI before I follow it up.

I'll tell you what I think happened with rupert episodes. That the films were in such a poor state in the mid 80s that Central dubbed them to 1" VT for posterity, junked the film, marked the VTs as MASTER, then that ITC/Polygram at some later stage wiped or junked those tapes thinking they were just sales dubs and that the original films still existed.

I know plenty of people will have bits and pieces of Live Aid taped, but even so, I think you should nonetheless copy what you have (or it can be arranged) and get it over to Kal or the BBC. Rights issues notwithstanding, it is without doubt partly missing (the US stuff slightly more than the UK), and should be kept and preserved. Should you need any details or where to send tapes/copies to, message me and I'll let you know.
The same goes for anyone on here who has any tapes of Live Aid or anything missing at all.

There was an article about Live Aid when the DVD set came out. I think the BBC's UK event recordings are fine (as far as I know anyway) but the trouble came when the producers of the set wanted to include extra footage. I think they approached MTV who located a pile of broadcast masters just lying around. When looked at, the coverage as transmitted by them was intact...BUT that included frequent commercial breaks and trailers, which often cut in to a performance midway etc. So there was SOME extra stuff but not a complete recording of the entire day's events anywhere. I think they managed to patch a few performances together again by mixing from several different sources whose coverage was slightly different.

I do need to get a list of what's missing. Obviously, a fair bit OUGHT to survive on VHS etc. It was probably a very-recorded show, domestically!

Right, this post may appear to be controversial, but it's for information purposes only and NOT promoting any illegal material.
Quite the contrary.
There is, unsurprisingly, material of the Live Aid concert that was not issued that is on the collector's market.
While I am not at all suggesting one should deal in trading - especially given the worthy nature of the event - I am nonetheless suggesting that anyone with any unreleased footage (i.e not on the DVD set) gets it over to the BBC and/or Kal.
For purposes of noting that footage IS out there, this will be included (in truncated form) on my Forum Raiders list.

When you say 10 out of 16 hours, Ray, do you mean 16 were transmitted in the UK by the BBC? Also, you mean 6 hours of this same footage is missing from the DVD release rather than from the archives, yes?
It was probably that they felt 10 hours was a fairly weighty chunk of the whole event to put out. Also, there were some acts who didn't want their contributions repeated anywhere (Led Zeppelin, i'm talking about you!).
You're right, it was a very recorded event. I did so myself and think I taped about 6 or 7 hours of it. Haven't watched any in years though!

I purchased a complete copy (well all bar the bits missed when the tapes were changed) on Ebay shortly after I got the DVD. It's on 6 VHS tapes.
A lot of what wasn't included was due to tech faults on the day (The Who, Boomtown Rats) or because the artists were unhappy about the performance as a whole (Led Zep) or a particular track (Duran Duran). Rick Springfield (from memory) turns up at various points to fill in gaps and none of it seems complete. Same with Santana. At various points the BBC footage cuts in part way into the first song. At one point Janice Long is introducing the Thompson Twins and we see aerial shots of the stage before it cuts back to her interviewing someone, then it cuts back part way into Hold Me Now.
The Cars- You Might think didn't make it to the BBC broadcast and from what I saw on Youtube the American stations cut off the start.
Madonna's Love Makes The World Go Round is incomplete on the BBC broadcast as she swore on the intro and it cuts off before the end.

Thanks Steven.
It's a bit of history, and anything is worth preserving, without a doubt.
