When you watched this sort of stuff you just assumed it would be kept, but its incredible now that we are relying on the artistes themselves to fill in the gaps with their own personal copies. O/T but Its like the completely lost series of 'Haunted' which Patrick Mower is rumoured to have kept his own copies.

A refreshingly mouth-watering witicism there! I still have an unopened bag at home from the Limited Edition revival!

I am shocked that so much material from this period is missing. I'm not a huge Bucks Fizz fan but have enjoyed watching many of their clips on youtube over the years and it turns out many of them are listed as missing. :o

I agree. Back in 1981 I made a documentary on VHS. I called the local TV company to try and get some publicity for the subject but they got the wrong end of the stick (I was just a teenager) and rather snootily I was told that they "would never broadcast VHS".

Now I have probably the only copies of a couple of clips from programmes that they wiped and that were recorded on the same VHS recorder that was used to edit that documentary. ;D

Somehow I think they would have no problem with VHS if they ever want to show those. ;D

Haha, My how the tides have turned there Robert. Indeed, betting as you are here that they would be quite pleased to have even a research copy of the material they later wiped. Talk about a runaround there, and interesting turn of events, as is quite commonplace in the world of missing materials.

Cheers, Lance.

It always surprises me to hear that pop performances have been wiped. You would think they would have been an obvious thing to keep as the commercial value must have been clear by the 1980's?

Also so many interviews with famous people have gone - from shows like Pebble Mill At One and Friday Live. How could anyone think those weren't worth keeping?

It must be because the people responsible were from older generations who thought that all popular music was ephemeral and with a short life span. They likely thought that "when the kids grew up" they would move on to more "serious music" such as classical.
