Cheers for the clarification, Paul. I hadn't looked at the picture close up. So presumably though, t/rs of series 4 were made, even though none have so far surfaced?

some were made because a censor clip from The Last Witness turned up in Australia from when the series was sold there in black and white

Yes, you're right. There has been so much written here about OOTU in the past that i'm not up to speed on what the most recent info is any more!

They were made for season 3 too. As b/w clips exist from Imortaliry Inc, Liar! and Random Quest.

For Future reference - besides reading the label on the can - there's also other tell-tale signs that this is not an episode -- 1) The leader says "location". 2) There's no soundtrack. 3) It's in a 400ft can - 400ft of 16mm film is about 10 minutes max - so this clip is 10 minute or less (most likely less).

I think it would be extremely unusual for film recordings NOT to have been made of just about any series with the prospect of a sale.
Regards,
Paul

It really is a shame that so little ootu material hasn't came back, only two complete episodes have ever been found since 1978, two exist as audios and then theres half of the little black bag and some other clips.

I thought only Season 4 made it to Australia due to all the copyright issues with Isaac Asimov. I have copies of the Gympie Times with the broadcast dates on to confirm this. If anyone wants to help, I am building www.outoftheunknown.co.uk and would appreciate it.

"so little" ?
When you think how short a series it was, with almost half always existing, two whole episodes, a partial episode and lots of clips is actually a very good haul. A lot better than most missing series.

Bear in mind what has returned is largely within space of a few years of each other and recently. I think that's optomistic for the future.
One of the problems has been over the years OOTU hasn't had the same commercial potential or high profile as 'DR WHO'. Perhaps as interest gathers (which it is); more will come forward.
Another point is that most of the returned material; (the 2 1966 prints; Little Black Bag; and the Last Witness censored clip); is above average episodes. So that's good too.

I believe that 5 stories from the series have been remade for TV. (apologies if incorrect)
1. Random Quest, remade as a standalone drama for BBC4 (2007).
2. The Little Black Bag (itself a remake, was remade by Rod Serling's Night Gallery in 1971)
3. The Last Witness, was remade in the Hammer House of Mystery and Suspense series retitled “A Distant Scream” (1984)
4. The Uninvited again remade in the Hammer House of Mystery and Suspense series retitled “In Possession” (1984)
5. Stranger in the Family was remade for Hammer's Journey to the Unknown (1969).
I was wondering which other stories from the series either existing or missing from the original series have been remade, if any?

Yellow Pill and Target Generation were made for Out of this World and then the scripts were reused to make those stories. Some Asimov stories have probably been made for other things, seeing as how is probably the most well know writer that had a story adapted for the series, and 6 stories of his were adapted.
