Anyone know the archive status of the BBC adaption please? How well (or otherwise) have the BBC Sunday teatime classics survived in general?

Of the b/w serials in the Sunday afternoon slot from 1962, these exist...

(although the fifth and final epsiode of 1973's WOODSTOCK only exists complete as a b/w TR).

No info on SPECIAL PROJECT AIR, an original two-parter from 1969: some sources list it as wiped, but it may have been made entirely on colour film so may exists.

The sequel, 1975's ANNE OF AVONLEA, does survive though, (and turned up on UKGold a few times in the mid 90s).

Hey, don't be sorry - I think I had to watch that thing *every* Sunday evening right through the 1970s - it was *always* on. I was just curious because I spotted the Avonlea release pending

Are the ones you've listed with just a number in brackets surviving in their entirety (and consisting of this number of episodes in all) or do you mean that the number in brackets (e.g. Les Miserables (10)) is the only episode surviving?

Unless I pointed out individual eps, the mentioned serials exist complete.

There's no list on the net that I know of, but I do have a listing from 1962 onwards if anyone is interested - though, as THE DESPERATE PEOPLE above shows, what we think of as the "Sunday Classics slot" occasionally included more contemporary programming.

By comparison, the BBC2 "Classic Serial" slot is appallingly represented in the archives - FORSYTE SAGA aside, (from memory), only a late 60s WUTHERING HEIGHTS exists complete from it's b/w years.

THE BLACK TULIP exists in its entirety - episode one in PAL colour, episodes 2-6 as BW 16mm film recordings.

Although the BBC-2 classic serial does suffer from significant losses, there are also many good examples - the following serials exist, in colour, in their entirety.

VANITY FAIR (the first colour classic serial, on Acorn DVD), PERE GORIOT, THE POSSESSED, THE FIRST CHURCHILLS, DANIEL DERONDA, GERMINAL, POINT COUNTERPOINT, THE PORTRAIT OF A LADY, COLD COMFORT FARM (all tx'd in the 60s), THE SPOILS OF POYNTON, SENTIMENTAL EDUCATION, EYELESS IN GAZA, COUSIN BETTE, BEL AMI, SENSE AND SENSIBILITY

Some are a mix of colour and black/white or have some eps missing - eg - NANA, RESURRECTION, MIDDLEMARCH

Others like THE SPANISH FARM and MADAME BOVARY have single examples surviving

The Canadian version on CBC starred Megan Follows as Anne. http://www.anne3.com/

I have a website on LM Montgomery and often receive questions about the BBC miniseries. I came across this page looking for info on it.
